AllThingsD, citing sources, is rumouring that EAs about to buy UK-based Angry Birds publisher Chillingo. The sites putting a figure between $80-200 million. Intel is also described as being interested in the firm, as are Gameloft, Activision Blizzard, DeNA and even Microsofts gaming unit. But the sites sources said EA is the main company targeting Chillingo. Angry Birds is a Rovio-developed mobile game where the player throws birds at pigs. Who knew? A recently-released free Android version was downloaded 2 million times in two days. The game originally released on the App Store in December 2009. By August 2010, said the iOS version sold 6.5 million units, while the free trial version was downloaded 11 million times. The App Store SKU costs 99 cents http://www.vg247.com/2010/10/20/report-ea-poised-to-buy-angry-birds-publisher/
It's pretty awesome that these huge dollar deals are taking place over iPhone games, this can only result in good things.
Yup my thoughts exactly but i hope that the IOS doesn't lose its specificity in the process (unique games and free dlc)
same here. Getting Blizzard onto the iPhone could be interesting, and I doubt that (if Microsoft bought Chillingo) Microsoft would continue to publish games for the iPhone, and would probably work on making a Zune Touch and make games for it.
Yeah but i think that's going to stay at least for a while. Users would not buy a high priced game (well high price in opposition to what we're used to anyway) but the lack of support is something else, people will get used to it after a while, just like the pc users did. So i hope we don't lose that.
Agreed. Things can only get better overall from it. EA investing in Chillingo(a very successful company seasoned & tailored to iDevices) could only make EA a stronger company for the iGaming community. It shows that EA is getting even more serious in iGaming and that alone is great to hear because it would only result in raising the bar. No complaints here...I wish them the best of luck!
