I'm definitely sick of seeing "Doodle" in the title of games. I'm also sick of Zombie games - Why not more games where you kill Nazi's, Pirates, or Ninjas. Match 3 games - At least until PQ2 comes out on iPad Search and Find games - There's a reason we all grew out of reading Where's Waldo Gameloft's IP Ripoffs - It's shame that one of the most talented iOS devs can't come up with an original idea for a game.
I don't mind the doodle themes, but I find it scary that some games have the audacity to charge a buck for a doodle skin/theme...
PapiJump came long before Doodle Jump. Doodle Jump will never admit that Papi is its clear inspiration.
I dont care about inspiration, i care about the quality of the game, which doodle jump has way more quality than papijump...and I also think too many people slam doodle games, we have a thread like this, at least, once a week.
A good / popular / successful idea is always copied. It is HOW you copy it that is the question. There are some AWFUL doodle graphics out there and there are some outstanding ones as well. It's just like anything else - good match 3's bad match 3's; good zombie games bad zombie games; you get the picture. Implementation is key. More annoying? Making polls about just how things are.
Well said, Sir! I know. Isn't that so annoying? I'm sure others feel the same way, too. Would you support a poll to determine how widespread the concern is? (all in fun, of course )
Well said. I appreciate some devs suck at artwork and doodle graphics are an easy/cheap way out, and I appreciate that cloning a game isn't always a bad thing (although in Gameloft's case it is, because they don't evolve or improve on the game at all, they just strip it and remove any sign of life) but nevertheless it's gotten boring. It's forced me away from my iPod Touch for a while in search of console games that know how to provide something a little more unique.
It's garbage from people that are too cheap to hire an artist. It's even worse than making a zombie game.
Just found out that current agreements (with my wife) prohibit me from making this video available in the public domain. Hope this dance video is an acceptable alternative (safe for work). http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-X0AamE1Bxs
well, i for one am one of them. doodle jump's out of the question, since it was its success that caused the plethora of doodle apps to come up. dodle jump's got quality and uses the theme well, while the copycats, well... are simply crap, and i'm being really merciful by calling them crap. However, there are other doodle games that are quite fun, such as doodle bowling, parachute panic, etc
I actually enjoy the doodle games, but there's a limit. Doodle Jump and Doodle Dinosaurs are good, but some are just bad. Though just because you're not good at artwork doesn't mean you're necessarily always good at doodling. You have to have good art skills and a good idea to make a doodle game work.
Good thread. I'm sick to the back teeth of the endless deluge of identikit Doodle games! Not so bad if the concept is used a novel or unique way, but that's increasingly rare these days.
