Hey, what's shakin' Touch Arcade! I've been documenting the progress of my game Elusive Ninja: The Shadowy Thief over at Bulletproof Outlaws and just did a big art update for it revamping the background graphics. I'm working with Derek of Ravenous Games, who made League of Evil and we're making some swift progress these days after hitting a few snags! I'm updating the blog on a regular basis with behind-the-scenes development stuff (you can follow the project from Day 1 if you have a ton of free time to read my blabbing haha) Updated to add the App Store link! Hey everyone! We finally finished Elusive Ninja! Check it out: The game currently looks like this: (click the pic for a larger un-cropped version where you can see the whole roof/BG) There's a bunch of art and videos on the blog (weapons and character animations and explosion effects and stuff), and more to come! We're hoping to release the game somewhere between just before Easter and the first week of May, and it should support older iDevices, the iPhone 4's retina screen and the iPad. Check it out and follow along if you're interested in development stuff! - Quickdraw P.S. The reflection on the roof is because there'll be a rain overlay effect and splash effects when the ninja slides around, I just wanted to see how the Additive blending would look!
haha ya that's a super super early version. Got a new video I'll be putting up soon with the new art and some of the explodey weapons and fire and stuff in there. I'll post it up in this thread as well as the blog. You basically dodge stuff as long as you can and more objects are added and things are thrown faster over time. Simple concept with lots of polish and glowy things! - Quickdraw
oh,I wonder why the theme of many games falls on Ninja. Is it motivated by the popular cartoon animation Naruto which is very popular in my country
haha I hadn't thought of it that way. Maybe I should market it like that! Damn hero ninjas never giving a thought to what it's like to be on the other side of the throwing-stars! - Quickdraw
Got a newer video up, with the new art in! Catching the devBlog up this week, we're in crunch mode, hoping to have the game done and ready to submit by April 31st! - Quickdraw
haha whoops, it's a good thing because we didn't make the optimistic deadline anyway But things are still going awesome, I just posted a huge MegaUpdate at http://www.bulletproofoutlaws.com/ New pics, new vids, new development blabbing, check it out! - Quickdraw
Do you guys have a release date? The game looks awesome, and I really can't wait for it. I don't know what kinds of extras you plan to have, but it would be awesome if there were new characters and throwing stars. It would be awesome if we could have donuts or bananas flying at us while we're dressed up as a sumo or something.
Thanks! I figure another week of actual coding, then a week for playtesting/balancing and polishing it up, then submitting it to Apple so hopefully it'll be in the last half of this month! It's exciting to be so close to being done! haha I'll keep it in mind for a sequel, don't want to get too over-ambitious for our first game! The original design was actually supposed to just have throwing-stars flying at you but I wanted to have more stuff so I ended up with dynamite and sushi boxes etc. It's hard to avoid feature creep when you're having fun dev'ing the thing - Quickdraw
Hey everyone, we finished up development on Elusive Ninja. Bulletproof Outlaws is now spending some time tweaking the gameplay. I'm sure there will be a big update on the progress soon!
Yep! Like the man says, we're done the majority of the game, it's just tweaking the gameplay and polishing the animations up a bit now! I'm hoping to submit it to Apple early next week! It's been a long development process and I've learned a lot along the way, but man does it feel good to finally see the finish line haha Latest updates are at: http://www.bulletproofoutlaws.com/ - Quickdraw
Gameplay's all tweaked, hoping to be able to submit to Apple tonight or early tomorrow! Anyone have an older iPhone/iPod Touch device (older than iPhone 3Gs) and want to test Elusive Ninja out to make sure it runs nice on it? Hit up this URL if you want to help test it out today: http://bit.ly/j7h58t - Quickdraw
