In poker, sometimes you’ve just got to take a chance that the next card will be the one that gives you an unbeatable hand. Well, looks like that just happened for us with the new iPad.

You see, we had a feeling that this iPad was going to have a ‘retina’ display … 4x the number of pixels than the iPad and iPad 2 have. Turns out to be a pretty good bet.

So all along we’ve been building the iPad version of our iOS Poker game with this very detailed iPad retina display in mind (2048 x 1536 pixels to be exact). Just look at how cool this is:

Of course we’ll be supporting the existing iPads with this upcoming release, but isn’t it great when a bet like this pays off?

    We think so.

Wow, that looks great! And yes, sometimes it's worth taking a chance, eh? :)

    It sure is.

The clue was that the SDK added something like iPad 2x to the screen choices, we guessed that this was the new iPad screen size.

    A good guess.

The graphics are spectacular at this resolution.

Heh, it makes the low res ad distracting. Looks good though!

    Free with ads/IAP?

YES, Free with ads/IAP. You can turn ads off .....

There are big (BIG!) social features coming in as well. More on that later.

Will the "social features" be required to use to effectively play the game?

Nope. Unlike most of the "play for fun" Poker games, PlayScreen Poker has a off-line practice mode that even works with no connection. You won't get ZINGed for your chips when you use this mode either.

We also don't require Facebook log-in. You can just come in as a guest or even use GameCenter.

The new social features we're adding will make it easier for you to setup games with friends and see who's playing. This is on top of the current apps achievements, extensive player stats and in-game chat.

    Hope that answers your questions.

You answered them completely, yes, and I'm very pleased that you've done things this way. Thanks!

My new iPad arrives on Friday. I'll finally get to play the beta of this in retina.

    Cool.

    Omaha!

Btw looks lovely. Any idea when it'll be released?!

Would be great if online tournaments could run too?

    7 card stud
7 card stud low (better known as Razz)
    7 card stud hi/low (8 or better)
    Omaha

With those you can add Horse - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/HORSE_(poker)

Lastly, for draw games you have traditional 5 card draw and the outstanding Badugi.

We've got tournaments in there now. They are fun. The next revision makes setting tournaments and tables up with your friends super-easy.

A matter of weeks for "PlayScreen Poker 2" which includes the new iPad retina version as well as the major new social features for all versions.
