However, they added freemium mechanics a long time ago, so this is the only price I would recommend trying this game at. It's a shame because pre-butchery it was one of the very best word games on iOS. SpikeGuy Well-Known Member May 8, 2012 532 0 16 #6 SpikeGuy, May 25, 2013 How so? I play the game daily with my friends and have never bought any IAP and have gotten much enjoyment out of it. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,239 179 63 #7 Royce, May 25, 2013 Obviously you don't mind the fact that others could potentially pay to beat you then. I do. SpikeGuy Well-Known Member May 8, 2012 532 0 16 #8 SpikeGuy, May 25, 2013 I play against strangers all the time, have fun, and win often. Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,239 179 63 #9 Royce, May 25, 2013 I don't see how that applies at all to what I'm saying. The game is paidmium and pay to win. You never know whether you are up against skill or deep pockets. For me, that ruins the game. Honestly the presence of consumable IAP at all in a game that is not suited for it ruins the game for me, but pay to win makes it just a big fat no. You feel differently, and that's fine, good for you SpikeGuy Well-Known Member May 8, 2012 532 0 16 #10 SpikeGuy, May 25, 2013 Well for a pay to win game I sure win a lot without paying. DBC Royce Well-Known Member Mar 22, 2011 4,239 179 63 #12 Royce, May 25, 2013 Good for you. I'm just trying to make sure people aren't dissuaded from acquiring a good game from your poor advice. As I said the game is paidmium, and has consumable IAP and pay to win mechanics. These are facts. If you can dispute them go ahead, just know that your record of success without payment does not change anything, the mechanics are still there. And FYI, I'm not exactly alone in my feelings here. W.E.L.D.E.R. was quite popular on the forums until the Gigawatts update, when pretty much everyone, including some of TA's most well respected members, voiced their displeasure at what had become of the game they previously enjoyed. (The fact there are so many different threads for this game shows you how bad the Gigawatts reception was. Every time there was a major update, the developers started a whole new thread so people wouldn't read the posts by people pointing out what the game had truly become. The fact that "W.E.L.D.E.R." Is Impossible to search on the forum is the only reason I think they got away with it. Mods couldn't easily find previous existing threads.) So yeah, you can call it bad advice. I call it a public service announcement. As I said earlier, for free go ahead and try it, but free is the only price to get it at. It's a freemium, pay to win game. These are facts. If you don't mind playing freemium/pay to win puzzle games, this might be for you. The point is making people aware of what the game is in case perhaps they read an old review or remember how well received this game was but didn't keep up on the news of it being ruined. SO many games implement it, though not always so obviously. Often, it's tweaks to in-game item costs or in-game currency deflation. It sucks. And it really hampers ios. Even if a game advertises itself as having no iapps, it often doesn't stay that way. Man, I wish I didn't have to research every app update before applying one. SpikeGuy Well-Known Member May 8, 2012 532 0 16 #16 SpikeGuy, May 27, 2013 You stand by what you said and I stand by what I said. I've introduced the game to several people when it's free. We all play it daily, enjoy it, and have never paid a cent for it. We spend gigawatts we've earned while playing and that's it. I didn't want people who just enjoy a good word game to miss out on a fun experience. I think we're going to have to agree to disagree on this. (You must log in or sign up to post here.)
