What i love about iOS when you come across a title that seems to have come out of no where. Reign of Heroes is one of them games. It uses what is now a increasing popular JRPG formula, your team of heroes goes on quests to rid the world of Orcs, while at the same time leveling up your heroes with ruines that you find from completing quests. You can take the auto route and let the game play out the results or you can take part yourself. The characters also much to my surprise behave as you would thought in a type RPG game. IE the thief of the group runs around the back of the monsters to attack that is something i not seen a JRPG do before. The game looks great and feels like its been inspired by warcraft and yet not ripping off warcraft like some JRPG we have seen in the past. Of course the game is free so you all trappings of freemium game and i know how some on TA hate these types of games.
U know what...... Almost ALL of the current events for this NEW game involve buying X number of diamond for X dollars. Rebating you gold for X dollar spend blah blah blah........ If you are a free player, don't bother playing this "wonderful" game. Enjoy guys and bye.
I agree with you wholeheartedly. I don't mind freemium games, in fact some of my favorite are free like Puzzle and Dragons and Monster Quest, but this game....wow its generic, nothing new or interesting here.
Ive only put about an hour into the game so far, but it is better than I was expecting. At its core its very much like heroes charge, dragon soul, etc. Collect heroes, farm gear to increase character rank, farm shards to promote characters. However, game play is actually closer to Battleheart. Moving and selecting enemies is done by drawing a line from your characters. Enemies telegraph special moves with either a "dont stand here" red shape on the ground that you need to move out of, or a cast bar that needs to be interrupted. Incorporating these very basic MMO mechanics greatly help to make battles feel more active than simply when to active a special skill. An example of what to expect from a boss fight. First wave involves fighting a single dragon who does an AOE knockback and occasional fire ball that needs to be dodged. 2nd wave involves killing waves of adds that then active a soul crystal to damage the boss. 3rd wave is tanking the dragon while he periodically spawns waves of skeletons that have to be AOE'ed down. Also during wave 3 he cast a cone breath attack that covers 1/3 of the room that needs to be dodged. TLDR: A good mix of heroes charge and Battleheart with light MMO boss fight mechanics.
Great breakdown of the fight mechanics. Unlike many similar games where you basically just watch the fight, this one is way more interactive. Plus you can pause the fight at any time and then issue commands which are carried out when you resume. There IS an auto battle mode, but because of the interactive nature of the battles, your team needs to be strong to auto battle. It's a great balance.
I completely disagree with this comment. You can play the game and NOT spend any money on the game there are no pay walls that I have come across since I started playing. I have only spent $7 which is a subscription for one month and typical of these JRP games to support the game as I think it's worth it.
One other thing I noticed is the game will give you the "reward" on the first go if you need a rune. Other games I played like this I normally had to do a couple of times before "reward" I'm after drops .
Does anyone know the story with this game? It appears to have launched under a different title (Legendary Heroes) this week? http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=289364
