Default External Battery Packs

Probably a silly question:

When you've had the Touch for a while and the battery begins not
to hold it's charge for long, does getting an external battery pack solve
this problem by being able to charge the Touch fully?
Or does the external battery pack only charge the internal battery
so, the result is that internal battery still doesn't last any longer?

Thanks.

Im sure you can send it off to apple and get them to replace the battery. If memory serves me right it's about £50gbp though.

It charges the battery, but also powers it. So I guess a little of both. In the case of a weak internal battery, the charging of it is largely wasted, but still you'll get longer run time.
