Hello RPG lovers ! Our first RPG, nationally Awarded : "Indie Game of the Year, People Choice Award" in 2013 NASSCOM is free for the launch on IOS, until the 21st of December. I give you the link below if you want to give it a shot. https://itunes.apple.com/us/app/song-of-swords-rpg/id723490985?mt=8 The game keeps the gameplay of Battleheart, and we have build our game around this. Hope you will like it ! ++ Nicolas
When you say, keeps the gameplay of battleheart you're not lying. It feels almost exactly like battleheart. The only difference is the combat is considerably flower in the beginning. To be honest it's not a bad game, but I was bored after about 8 minutes. This isn't a knock at your development team though- the game has heart, it just needs some more polish. You can't upgrade gear and you get 1 new teammate every couple of levels. My biggest complaint is the pacing, everything feels tedious and underwhelming, and since this is a copy of battleheart, I was expecting more. Pretty good game though , this is the best battleheart clone that I've played.

Hello Batu, Thank you so much for your review ! We have started the project after being fired from Gameloft. Our studio shut down overnight, leaving 350 of us jobless, from one day to the other. So we did not have much time for pre-production ;-) Battleheart was (and still is !) BY FAR the best RPG on Mobile. So we said : "let's take the gameplay, see what can be improved, and do better than this" But we realized that Mika Mobile was just too talented. The more we tried, the more we realized they were no way we could reach this level of quality for now. When we realized the special effects, or the animations were not as good as Mika Mobile's, it was too late. Even for a small game like that, if you need to redo all the animation set, it takes 500 hours, and 200 hours for the special effects. Then you need to resinc everything in the engine, resinc the sounds, test all the effects, and you end up spending 1000 hours. Still, if you say that it is the best Battleheart-clone you have played, I take it as a huge compliment ! Battleheart was not available for Blackberry 10, and we put SoS on this platform first. We are still topping the charts after 2 months, and we have something like 98% 5 star reviews. http://appworld.blackberry.com/webstore/content/33939894/?countrycode=IN&lang=en Also, SoS is on its way for Windows Mobile. Battleheart is also not available there, so I am confident we can bring some fun for RPG lovers who have these phones. We are already working on a sequel, the engine is ready now, and we have learned a lot. I am sure we can do much, much better now. There are tons of stuff we can add, a co-op mode, scrolling bg, adding dynamic events on the battlefield.....plus tons of stuffs I will keep secret for now, that we simply did not have the time to think of when we made SoS. Thank you once more for your encouraging words, Have a good day, Nicolas Markku Well-Known Member Jul 30, 2011 1,194 0 0 #5 Markku, Dec 15, 2013 I gotta try this game out! downloading! Nicolipo Active Member Dec 14, 2013 25 0 0 #6 Nicolipo, Dec 16, 2013 Any news Markku Hello Markku. Did you got some time to check it ? Markku Well-Known Member Jul 30, 2011 1,194 0 0 #7 Markku, Dec 16, 2013 yes I played for a good 30 mins and here is my thoughts so far. It is the best battleheart game I have played that tried to be battleheart. I also don't know what your talking about the animations seem fine to me however i have 2 worrys and wondering if you can answer this for me. 1. Does the game get harder? I feel the game is really easy so far however I believe im on lvl 4-5 2. Is there lots of loot like battleheart or is there a lot less here? I do want to say the game is pretty polished so far and would like to know if you guys are brining any other games to the app store? Nicolipo Active Member Dec 14, 2013 25 0 0 #8 Nicolipo, Dec 16, 2013 Hello Marku, thank you so much for your feedback ! 1) Concerning the difficulty, basically here is how we did, we know it is not perfect, but we really felt it was a good idea to go like that : _ First World is easy, hard core RPG gamers usually find no challenge here. But casual players usually find it hard actually. _ Second World is medium, hard core RPG gamers usually finish without grinding. Casual players gets a real challenge here. _ Third World is hard, even hard core RPG gamers gets killed if they are not focused. If you don't have the good gear, good team, good special powers enabled, if you don't coordinate well your Special Attacks, there is no way you make it. 2) Concerning the loot : There is more than 100 objects in the game (weapons, armors, objects). But I see what you are talking about. We are giving too few of them after each fight right ? This was a difficult point to solve for us. We tried several ways to distribute the loot, but I was really afraid that if we went more generous, then the game would have become too easy. I will put my mind into it again and see what can we do here. 3) Next title : Some of us are already working on our next title, but we don't want to disclose anything for now. We are still in pre-production. Please let me know if you have anymore questions, and tell me if I answered correctly, Cheers, Nicolas Markku Well-Known Member Jul 30, 2011 1,194 0 0 #9 Markku, Dec 16, 2013 wow thanks for all this information looking forward to playing it again later today.! Chocolate Well-Known Member Jan 10, 2010 1,092 0 36 #10 Chocolate, Dec 16, 2013 Worth a try, thanks devs. Also, thanks for sharing the story behind the game. Interesting. App market is very hard to compete in I guess. Nicolipo Active Member Dec 14, 2013 25 0 0 #11 Nicolipo, Dec 17, 2013 There a lot of markets available I think, with players ready to buy. I think small fishes like us needs to focus more on these niche markets, that are forgotten by the big guys. If you look at RPG on IOS : Gameloft, EA, GLU... simply don't go there. These are difficult product to realize, and you get much more money from reskining "Ville Games" or "match 3 games" so why bother making an RPG ? I saw a lot of indies going for "match 3 games" for example. I think it is a bad idea. How could you compete with the big guys on this market ? We release Song of Swords on BB10 3 months back. The reviews were crazy. Nobody on the store got so many 5 star reviews in such a small time. Simply because there are almost no RPG on this platform. Gameloft did not even bother to port "Sacred Odyssey" for example. For sure we will never make a million dollar with our games, but I am convinced we can make a living, if we continue to target for the niche market that are simply too small for the big guys to take care of. So the markets are there I think, but the calibration is very difficult. ++ N Markku Well-Known Member Jul 30, 2011 1,194 0 0 #12 Markku, Dec 17, 2013 Well after playing more, this is a keeper tell I beat it at least and the difficulty is ramping up nicely also made to which I believe is the first boss which is a tree and I got owned so bad. Looking forward to finally beating him but I barley got his health down and had a party wipe. For anyone that loved battle heart you gotta try this game and for free you have no excuse. Now the one thing I don't like and it was the same in battle heart was when my tank and dps get to close to together that it's hard to play because I try to click on the tank but somehow the dps guy gets clicked on. Do you have any tips on this issue? iTester Well-Known Member Aug 16, 2013 129 0 0 Tester ios city #13 iTester, Dec 17, 2013 Is the gameplay is different on blackberry ? Game is free or paid on blackberry ? What about android ? Nicolipo Active Member Dec 14, 2013 25 0 0 #14 Nicolipo, Dec 17, 2013 Yes, we worked a lot on that. This is why we made the characters bigger and slow down the speed of the game in comparison with Battleheart. We thought of adding buttons, so you can select the characters easily. Some other guys did that, but on small screen, we found it really ruin the display. There is no perfect solution for this issue I guess. Each choice has pros and cons. But the way I play the game is : I put the heroes in Diamond, and I pay attention that they don't come too close to each other. I keep the healer on top, the archer/mage on bottom, and the dps and tank on left and right, making them going from right to left according to the action, and Special Attacks in use. Tell me if it helps and if you would have another idea apart from the buttons idea. ++ N Nicolipo Active Member Dec 14, 2013 25 0 0 #15 Nicolipo, Dec 17, 2013 The gameplay is similar on BB10, we have made a few changes into the difficulty that's it. We are using coco2dx, which is cross platform, so when we fix something on one platform, we update the other easily. The price is same on BB10, 2$99 max, with free sale from time to time. About porting on Android, this is different. It is very difficult to port an RPG, because the game is very complex. There is a lot of issues that can happen, much more than in an endless runner for example. Each Android phone has his own issues, with different FW, manufacturer layers, different GPU..... We are former Gameloft, so we know how to port on Android, but we also know that it is a god damn complex task to do. Even Mika Mobile tried to port Battleheart on Android, but they stopped the support very fast. They realised it was too difficult for them to do this. So considering that the architecture of Song of Swords is similar, I am not sure that we will be able to port it on Android as well. iTester Well-Known Member Aug 16, 2013 129 0 0 Tester ios city #16 iTester, Dec 17, 2013 Currently game is free only on iOS . Will try & give you feedback for iOS . scape211 Well-Known Member Jun 20, 2012 318 3 18 Graphic Designer #17 scape211, Dec 17, 2013 Have you ever played Sefirah? Its a Battleheart clone with a different art style that achieved the buttons quite well. Essentially they did the opposite; made the characters a little smaller to leave room for the buttons. IMO, it was one of the easiest ways to control your guys. Plus, they had a button to grab all your characters; really nice for specific bosses that target certain types of characters or sections of the screen. In lue of that, one thing i appreciate that some of these line drawing RPGs do is take away the line drawing and simply let you click on your character, then click on your target. Battleheart didn't do this as it was the first of its kind. However, I think its very handy to allow you to make decisions quickly. All that said, i enjoy this game. I like that it has a little more story and humor in it than Battleheart (such as the aint nobody got time fo' dat reference) so far and the difficulty seems to have a good pace. I will certainly keep playing. wolpak Well-Known Member Feb 7, 2011 122 5 18 #18 wolpak, Dec 17, 2013 You could also add one button that rotates through guys. arnoldc Well-Known Member Aug 14, 2009 275 0 0 #19 arnoldc, Dec 18, 2013 You guys rock on bb10 scene.
