"Tetris was invented exactly when and where you would expect in a Soviet computer lab in 1984 and its game play reflects this origin. The enemy in Tetris is not some identifiable villain (Donkey Kong, Mike Tyson, Carmen Sandiego) but a faceless, ceaseless, reasonless force that threatens constantly to overwhelm you, a churning production of blocks against which your only defense is a repetitive, meaningless sorting. It is bureaucracy in pure form, busywork with no aim or end, impossible to avoid or escape. And the games final insult is that it annihilates free will. Despite its obvious futility, somehow we cant make ourselves stop rotating blocks." - Sam Anderson, Just One More Game ... I am looking for good Tetris-alternative, Tetris-inspired, and Tetris-themed games. Thanks!
Wow.. another great list. Thanks Retrospective! My wife was looking for a tetris clone last week, im sure she'll love this list!
You are most welcome! I played Tetris Blitz recently and was less than pleased with it so I spent some time looking into what options I had with regard to alternatives. Finger vs Block in particular has been filling that void for me most directly. Maybe EA will wise up and release a port of the classic Gameboy Tetris as I am sure it would do rather well.
Dang... Finger Vs Block isnt on their dev's list on the PH appstore. I dont think EA's going to do the classic tetris. The upcoming tetris+pokemon they're releasing seems like it will run similarly to Tetris Blitz.
I discovered T-Block a while back. http://forums.toucharcade.com/showthread.php?t=201478 So far, this is my favorite of the bunch. It is a straightforward well-designed clone with alternative gameplay modes and optional special blocks with unique properties.
