Do you prefer the Top Down view, like 1942?

or a side view, like R-Type?

Im starting to ideate on a shmup and was wondering what the consensus was, if any.

Hate side-scrolling ones like R-Type and Assault Squadron. Feels so awkward and really doesn't play that well in my opinion.

Although I don't dislike side scrolling shooters it is a challenge and chore to get back into that type of shooter style at times being that I play mostly top down view ones because there is more of an abundance of those to start with so that being said my vote goes for the top down view shooter.

While I like both types, for me on the iPod touch, I prefer top down/vertical shooters. Most side scrollers have enemies coming from all sides making my finger blocking the view... :/

I haven't run into this problem *as much* for vertical shooters yet.

If it was on the PC or console with a controller/keyboard, then I'm fine with either.

Definitely vertical. Horizontal shooters are very awqward to play. The only one I've enjoyed was Zombieville.
