In addition, the temporary vehicles change the nature of the run for a time, and the missions always give you an alternate goal to work towards.

Oh yes, and achievements which also serve as "missions". By this I mean they require you to do something in-game, other than "run 2,000m"

The only downside (sorta) is that there's nothing I really want in the coin store. Sure, there are plenty of things to work towards and I'll get them all, but nothing immediately jumped out as "I must get this".

The IAPs are there if you want to try all the jetpacks, clothings etc without waiting to unlock manually. But you can unlock them without too much effort anyways, so no real need to buy any IAPs. The game is a ton more fun without them. The only practical reason why you'd want to buy IAP (IMO) will be if you want to say thank you to halfbrick (assuming you enjoyed the game enough).

So the IAP's don't affect the leaderboards, correct? Thus, in theory, anyone buying this game tonight should have the same statistical chance of posting top scores as similarly skilled players who've owned the game longer. Sounds good to me.
