I'd say CP but only because my opinion is hindered - I've already played it.

And yes, I think the controls are tilt only. Regardless, this looks nice. Wonder why it doesn't have any more interest.

Waiting for: Airborne Troopers, Mini Motor Racing. Minisquadron 2, Tweetland, Car Jack Streets 2, Drive Forever, Turf Geography Club, Junk Jack!!

Tossing up between this and CP. Leaning towards this more. Not THAT hardcore about retro-style platformers (unless it was an iOS port of the Donkey Kong Country games; we should be so lucky).

iCade support? You want to move around with a joystick while tapping the screen to shoot?

With the angle that the iCade is set at, it seems like it would be really annoying to play.

Game Impressions

Nice game let down by awkward controls. You need to tap above, to the sides, and below the player to shoot. So far so good. But not too far below or you'll instead make him jump. Now we have a small problem. But wait, while doing all that we also have to tilt the device to make him run left/right. Constantly altering the angle we view the screen at. While at least one finger is constantly covering a part of the screen. Now the problem is much bigger. In addition the jumping is less than 100% responsive, and there is no option to set the tilt sensitivity.

I like the game itself lots; it's colourful, imaginative, with decent variety and a good sense of fun. It would look better on the iPad (really this should be universal) and the touch controls would work better with a larger area to work with, but the tilting is likely to cause an even bigger problem there. Don't know what the ideal control solution would be, but the one on offer simply isn't good enough at the moment.

This game is dripping with retro awesomeness, the graphics, music, all very polished.... but I don't know if I like the controls.

The tilt feature is a liitle akward to use in combo with jumping and tapping on the screen. I want to be able to control the game with one thumb or finger, but I end up using both hands and feel like I'm trying to do too many conflicting things at once. The invisible jump button is strangley placed on top of the score at the bottom, and constantly tapping on the screen to aim and fire means my hand is always getting in the way. Seems like they could have done something more practical with the controls.

It's still well worth the price, and a very sweet retro game overall, maybe I'll get used to the controls, maybe not. Everything else about it is extremely excellent.
