Let talk: Unity Engine.

It's come a long way hasn't it? When I first joined the site I used to shun games made with this like the plague, but in the last year devs have gotten the tools to truly bring their games special.

I'd like to make a list of all the great games using Unity for 2011. Only games I can call off the bat are Megan And The Giant, Muffin Knight, Shadowgun and the recently announced Bladeslinger.

Currently learning iMaschine and Garage Band.

New update redefines what mobile games are capable of.
September 28, 2011

At today's Unite 11 conference, Unity Technologies detailed version 3.5 of its Unity engine.

The engine is scalable for use on every platform, from indie mobile games up to full-fledged console releases. The 3.5 update runs 60% faster than the engine's previous version, 3.4.1.

"Unity is accelerating as a platform and as a company," said CEO David Helgason. "Unity 3.5 demonstrates our intense commitment to bringing seriously advanced technology to the masses and we're only getting started."

Along with a demonstration of the new update, Unity unveiled Bladeslinger, an impressive new sci-fi Western shooter for iOS and Android:

Version 3.5 of the engine will feature several performance enhancements and visual improvements, including multithreaded and HDR rendering, a new GPU profiler, directional light maps, and an entirely new AI system. Importing new assets into the engine is up to one hundred times faster than 3.4.1, and an entirely new particle effects system has been implemented.

A full rundown of features is available in Unity's official announcement.

Unity 3.5 will be available to developers by the end of the year.

The MikaMobile games are created in Unity, including Battleheart (which today was awarded the Grand Prix at the Unite 11 conference).

Wow I am very flattered that you mentioned Megan and the Giant! It was my first self-developed game, and I couldn't have gotten it finished without Unity.

I just went to the annual Unity conference (Unite) last week in San Francisco. Amazing developers all around. There are a lot of great new Unity games coming to smartphones near you soon!

(shameless plug: check out our blog to see what we are developing with Unity for touch devices - http://www.pepwuper.com/blog/ )
