Thank you for your response. I agree that the ui looks so much better for sbo but it finally came down to complexity and pricing point. I like the diplomacy aspect of Ascendancy and a 7.99 price tag from an unknown- to me- developer made it difficult to buy. Especially in december with so many great games on the way and all the sales that are coming up or already underway.

Starbase Orion v1.0.7 is now live!

Special thanks to all of the players whose feedback and ideas have helped to make Starbase Orion one of the best 4X games on iOS.

Quote:
*** Most Notable Changes and Improvements in v1.0.7 ***

- Ship and weapon balance changes! Many players have noted that building lots of missile frigates provided a much larger benefit than building larger ships. Ships have been adjusted to bring these more in-line, allowing greater variety in strategic thinking. Please see the forums for a full list of changes.

- Lots of user requested new features!
* Colonists in transit between planets of different star systems now appear as "transporting" icons on the destination planet
* Defending spies now have a change of reporting enemy spy activity in your empire.
* When an item built is reported in the sitrep, the next item in queue for that planet is also listed in the sitrep
* Weapon and system listing in the ship designer are now sorted such that newer technologies are at the top of the list
* Combat at a system now prevents the planets at that system from transporting colonists off of those world. If you want to engage in scorched earth tactics, you will need to do that before your opponent reaches your colony.
* Added "clear all" and "upgrade all" buttons to the race and ship designer
* Added a cancel button to the research dialog

Starbase Orion v1.0.8 is now live!

Thanks again to all of the players for providing great ideas for new features.

Quote:
*** Most Notable Changes and Improvements in v1.0.8 ***

- Custom race attribute tweaks!
* Cost values for penalty attributes have been adjusted
* "Repulsive" trait now carries an increased maintenance cost for spies
* "Small Minded Scientists" has been renamed to "Broad Field Experimentalists" and now costs 2 points
* "Small Minded Scientists" has been changed such that you now have less research options at each level and now costs -3 points
* "Shared Intelligence" has been buffed; penalties for low population are less severe and less population is needed to start receiving bonuses

- Lots of user requested new features!
* Adjusted multiplayer turn order such that the last player in a round is the first player to take their turn in the next round, making asynchronous multiplayer up to 2x more efficient
* New ship combat reinforcement rules; when you fly ships into an existing battle, they will be inactive for one turn before committing to battle, at which time you can give them their initial orders
* New scheme for multiplayer match description caption; example: FFA, 409.2: Player1, Player2, Player3, Player4
* Tapping on a system which is out of fuel cell range now shows a dialog explaining your selected fleet's fuel range, and the distance to the closest colony
* All new turn submission dialog for multi-player games
1) View the chat log prior to turn submission
2) Enter your chat message, cancel button allows you to back out of turn submission
3) Check box to toggle turn compression on or off for turn submission
4) A cancel button allows you to back out of turn submission, before actually committing the turn
* Made the following changes to build focuses
1) If an Agent Training Camp already exists in your empire, build focuses will not build another
2) Focuses will not build Improved Colony Infrastructure until all building lots are taken
3) Focuses will not build Advanced City Planning until the colony is at maximum occupancy
4) Focuses will not build Planetary Gravity Generator unless needed by the planet (this was a bug introduced in v1.0.7)
* If you purchase a building on a planet which is building using a focus, it will now cause an interrupt in turn compression
* The "purchase building" button has been reworked. If you cannot afford to purchase the item, it will be red and if you tap on it a dialog will tell you how much more GC you need. If you can afford to build it, it will be green and tapping will let your purchase it. All other times the button will be hidden.

Greetings.

KittyMac, any news regarding the port of Starbase Orion for earlier iOS devices?
(as is my case, I own a good old iPhone 3G, without Game Center support and limited up to iOS version 4.2.1)

I understand the multiplayer will be undoubtedly left out, as it is GameCenter based, but I'm a long MOO2 'lone-player' and I don't mind renouncing to MP if I can get a decent challenge against AIs.

I remember having read something about this in your own Starbase Orion webpage, but it was some time ago. I hope this idea is still alive and not completely abandoned...

Regards

L.

Starbase Orion currently supports iOS4 (without multiplayer or iCloud).

What SO doesn't support are the 3G and earlier devices; the hardware on these just makes the game unplayable in larger galaxies / late game. I am sorry, but I have no plans add support for the pre-3GS devices at this time.

Bad news indeed.

I guess there are few 1st and 2nd generation iPods/iPhones left out here at this time.

Thanks anyway for the quick answer.

Talking Game Impressions

Hats off to KittyMac! Outstanding game!

I never played this type of game until I tried Ascendancy but I just couldn't get into it. However, this game is awesome and I feel it's far superior even without diplomacy.

Thanks for such a great effort and continued support...this truly is one of the best iPad apps available.
