Just had a very quick play:

Tap the screen to move to that spot.

Pink diamonds take you to next section of map.

Moving blue flames on the map seem to represent enemies, opens a battle screen with one or multiple enemies. ie: once you enter the fight, you see what the enemies are, like a spider.

Trying to explore, but flames keep moving into me, starting fights.

Turn based fighting options include: Magic, Potions, weapon, Escape, Shield, Skill, POW.

Was a bit worried about the English at the very start, but then it was okay for the few lines I've seen so far.

It is free with a line in the description - unleash the power of magic gems.

So my question is how much do these magic gems cost? (yes I am being skeptical!) Like, you can't make a step without them or you can do fine without them just might take some grinding?

In the "Upcoming" thread for this game, the developer wrote:

You can purchase game coins by In-App Purchases and use those additional coins to buy some features like enemy evasion. And some special enhancement features will retain even you start a new game.

We tested that normal players can finish the game without purchasing IAPs and the playing time will be a little bit shorter if you pay for special skills.

There are some ways to earn additional coins too, such as visiting our Facebook when playing.

Well that's good to hear. Hero's Way was pretty interesting, but I don't think it was possible to get anywhere near the end of the game without buying tons of IAP.

Cool stuff, will be picking this one up as well. A JRPG for free? Hope it's decent.
