A 1.8GB download does sound damn painful.

Yea, retina graphics for app icon, UI, text, and maybe some of those unit markers would be enough to satisfy me.

It's not a terribly great idea from a marketing standpoint when every other app is doing free Retina updates - we'd be hung out to dry as money-grubbing villains.

We'll explore work on optimizations that'll make UI and text sharper on new iPads, but for true Retina iPad support, it seems like all our options are pretty lousy. What do you guys think?
As someone who's hung the odd developer out to dry in the past, I say so long as you explain your reasons for a separate HD app clearly as you've done here, no one should have an issue. Besides, it sounds like it's your only real option if you're going to go HD at all, so it's that or no HD.

Now, a thought: is it in any way possible for you to verify users who've purchased your original app and offer them a hefty discount on the HD version or even a free download? If so, that would be a terrific gesture, but as I said, even if not, yours does sound like the one case where aspersions cannot be cast on your credibility, given an informed and reasonable mind.

I agree with this. It's really only a problem if the app description is confusing, and one doesn't really understand why there should be a separate app.

Also, the 1.2GB tidbit would stop most from complaining.

App Store pricing is notoriously inflexible. I think Byline's writers managed to do something like that, but few people know how. I wouldn't expect it to happen.

One thing I wonder about is the use of "HD" for apps. Before the new iPad came out, developers were adding the "HD" label to apps that ran at iPad1/iPad2 resolution, to differentiate them from iPhone/iPod versions. For example, FIFA 12 HD. Now what? Will the iPad3 version be called FIFA 12 HD'er? Then HD'est?

So. What the heck are we doing?

Heya guys, I know it's been awhile. Wanted to update you all on what we're up to, and I know there's one bit you all will be particularly pleased with. =)

1) We're working on a small puzzle game you can pick up and play. Its premise is that it's a tactical game played at Esotre's Academy, much like how Chess is played at West Point. There's a funky AI to go up against and live multiplayer that you can challenge friends over Game Center.

2) We will be releasing a free version of Ravenmark where all campaigns will be IAPs.

3) Now, since we're doing that.. We'll be giving our current players (You guys!) Deepwood Dragoons for free! You'll be seeing it soon! The deal that would allow us to do this fell through.

4) Ravenmark Multiplayer is confirmed and has been added to our schedule - most of the heavy design work has been done. It'll be a new app with a streamlined experience. In it, you'll be taking on the role of a mercenary captain that can play the various factions of Eclisse against each other along with async multiplayer to challenge your friends with.

5) We'll be creating an account system (with Facebook Connect) that will tie together all our current and future games such that your progress in one will give you perks in another. So completing a campaign in Ravenmark single player would unlock unique characters/stuff in multiplayer and the likes.

That is some pretty sweet news.

I'm pretty excited about the new Ravenmark campaign and Ravenmark multi-player.

The concept for the multi-player app in particular sounds really well done. I like the idea of having the player assume the role of a mercenary captain. Hopefully there will be some sort of an experience or in-game money mechanic with which the captain can purchase small bonuses. Do you have any information about how matchmaking will work? Will there be an easy and straightforward way to find opponents?
