Default Pyramid Bloxx (by Digital Chocolate)

Pyramid Bloxx - $4.99 - 6 MB

A lite version will probably be released soon.

It is another timing based game like Tower Bloxx or even Kamikaze Robots.

You can play it online: http://www.digitalchocolate.com/game...mid-bloxx.html

I'm attempted but the constant "loading" of the last Digital Chocolate games is what is holding me back.

First impressions:

After playing Tornado Mania and figured out that I was spending more time seeing "Loading" screens than playing it I was really afraid to purchase this game.

Well, there are too much "Loading" screens here too but I can tolerate them. I can. I can't tell you would. What is funny is that a game like Tiger Woods has far less loading than most of the Digital Chocolate games. The secret is: use loading but try to make it worth in playing time (e.g.: 6 sec loading time for a 15 sec playing does not worth).

The game itself.

In Quick Game you try to score and go as high as possible. Your top 5 scores are kept. If you lose you have an option to Retry which will lead you to another "loading" time. Try to go as high as possible. Spend at least 40 seconds. Otherwise you'll find the "loading" time just to retry very, very annoying.

The Build Empire mode delivers a better experience. "Loading" will pop up here and there but they are short.

You start the Empire by building your first (out of three) pyramid and there are 3 block types to use (the second pyramid has even more block types). Rules surround blocks usage and each one requires a slightly harder game to get. Once one pyramid is ready you can move to the next one. However, you can also improve the previous pyramid by using better blocks.

The interface to build and manage a pyramid is a bit small and not so intuitive. Fat fingers may not like it.

One thing caught my attention: there is a background music all the time. It's nice. However, there aren't any sounds: when you throw a block, nothing; when one catch a block, nothing; when a block is dropped, nothing; when a block reaches the top, nothing; making combos, nothing. It kind of makes the game less interesting.

For a $4.99 price tag I was expecting a bit more. It is not as polished as it can be. Too much loading times, no sounds, only local high scores and a just OK interface. The game is nice but it's a timing game, meaning you have to tap (or flick as an option) in the right moment in order to score more. A bad timing means game over (Quick Game) or a worst block to build a pyramid.

My rate: 3/5.

I'm auto-assuming this game runs in 10 fps like every other DC game that seems to be left in the old-age cellphone era.

I can't find the lite link. Do you still have it?

Anyway, there's an online version to try (see initial post).

I don't see it either which is why I thought it wasn't out yet.

It's still a wonder to me that DC doesn't optimize their games for the iPhone. They have so much room to make it run smoother, yet they insist on pushing out what seems like direct JAVA/BREW ports of the cell-phone counterparts.
