Why the hell is this a separate version of Tetris? They should have added it to the pre-existing version. Lame. Not sold.

I haven't bought the earlier Tetris release due to the complaints about the controls. Does this new version include 'classic' gameplay modes but with improved controls or is it a considerably different game? I really just want a GOOD Tetris game and I am not sure if this is it or if this deviates too far from the original.

Was hoping this was an update to the original then prob would have bought without hesitation.

Game Impressions

Hmm. Well, this is all a bit odd. The original iPad game is still there but the iPhone version (there was an iPhone version too, right?) appears to have been pulled in favour of this one. What's even odder is this version comes up for me when I do a search on my iPhone but won't come up at all when I do an iPad search. Won't even come up from the direct link here. Odd, odd, odd!

More oddness in the game in the shape of IAP. You're able to buy various amounts of unlock points or whatever they are in this instance, but also sign up for a club membership. $3 for a month or $31 for a year. Really? People would do this for Tetris? Odd! Now, the unlock points can be gotten via playing but it's too early for me to tell at how reasonable a rate.

So after all that, to the game itself, which is, in short, glorious. There are three modes. The regular Tetris mode with good controls. Then there are another two which are very difficult to describe but very simple to understand as soon as you start to play. The "main" mode where you go through levels and unlock worlds is super addictive and fun.

Oh, the game uses "Origin" for online which I have not as yet signed up for due to all the IAP-related oddness. Without it, it appears I'm stuck with being called "Guest." Not sure at this stage whether I'll end up signing up or not.

So to sum up: great game, odd release, odd IAP and some related niggling doubts.

Yeah it still has the classic game play, the one touch thing is its own mode

There are in app purchases called T-coins and some T-club membership but I'm not sure what they do though.

I'm scratching my head over how exactly the decision to release a "freemium Tetris" was arrived at to begin with.

I mean, some bright mind must have surely been behind this at EA? But why did nobody stop his idiotic idea? Sigh...
