To the above comment I don't see how asynchronous would be possible in a real time game.
Sme of the cards affect only Templar or only assassin cards. For example radical demotion can only counter assassin cards, while against all odds can only counter Templar cards.
Two factions in the game lean more heavily towards one faction or another - crime is the assassin faction, while order is the Templar faction. They each only have 6 cards in the opposing faction, while media, faith and scholar all have exactly half half between the two factions.
