If i was ubisoft, i'd be thankful if i got the same feedback from many players regarding the problems. That's how things get attention, how they get fixed. But these problems should have been fixed before release. How many potential customers did they lose in the critical first week of release? You can bet it was a lot. Even the updates were broken. It's fine to have a major card advantage, but i want the choice not to play against these players. I thought the goal of ubisoft is to make the game accessible to more than just hardcore collectors with nothing better to do. I was obviously wrong. They should just remove the ridiculous 300 credits a day insult and make it obvious that the game requires a substantial investment to play properly. It is this facade of 'you can earn credits' that really reeks. It pretends to present a feasible earning option, and then it frustrates so completely, that the reaction is not to say "I give up. I am getting nowhere. I will now buy $50 of credits.", but creates an adverse reaction, which is "screw you, ubisoft...game deleted." i don't think this is a reaction that ubi wants to encourage. if ubi's plan is to addict and entice payment through a completely bogus grinding system of chickenfeed spread out over days, then they should just save everyone the time and insult and make it IAP only. Sorry, but no app, and especially a virtual card game, is worth $50 to $100 or more to play competitively. If this game is being funded by ccg addicts, it is really sad. And we all know thst ubisoft needs the money. It's a ubisoft greed game, that runs on addiction generated fumes. Stop making excuses for it. There are other well designed, balanced, online ccg apps that dont have these money investment problems. I dont have to 'accept it.' i paid $3 for this. I don't expect to be asked for another $50 to play it properly. If i were you, I would be embarrassed to admit the amount of money spent on this app and the amount of time spent playing it. Care to divulge your cash investment? I did not invest a cent, but I have no problem admitting that I am really embarrassed at the amount of time i spent playing this and putting up with the glitches, pushing well beyond the acceptable point of patience. I am in fact, ashamed of myself in retrospect. The last thing i need to hear from a self professed 'nothing better to do with my time' player, who even admits he is tired of crushing people, is that i am unjustified in posting a list of valid problems i found in the game. Everything has already been said? Really? So that means i can't post even once? I must have missed that clause in the forum rules. sorry! |

Here's my 2c
![]() Yes, you need to put good money to have decent collection to build competitive decks. Cheap decks can win against badly constructed and played expensive decks, sure. Or even better decks due to pure luck. But simply having way more cards give any deck builder significant advantage. There is no way around it. On grinding for credits.. Seriously? 100 credits is 20 cents. You play 15 games a day to get 60 cents which takes about about 1.5 hours. You should play for fun not for grinding. Put things in perspective. If you're against IAP by principle _and_ want to be competitive then this game isn't for you obviously. Nothing I would love more than to have this game not as CCG but just regular game where you play to unlock more cards. Or at least you can buy card set instead of random pack. I still have fond memories playing the MicroProse Magic the Gathering PC game. Alas, that's not the case. I really like the game so I'm willing to put up with glitches and IAP. Now If someone came up with game this good but not CCG, then I'll switch in a flash ![]() The only leaderboard is for the most experienced. Now, it doesn't say the best player, does it? Nor it says the most skilled players Check the Game Center again. I don't really care about the leaderboard, I play the game for fun. That being said, I do think the game needs: - technical issues fixed - proper ELO rating and matching - cater to casual play style, e.g. Templar cards only division |

*** Fast Bigs *** - 5 x Eizo Auditore Da Firenze (Gold Agent, Assassin/Rare, 5 cost, 5/5, FIERCE, You cannot launch any Templar Memory) Going to have to agree that this is the best damage agent in terms of cost/benefit. His presence does drive away the inclusion of Templar memories, though, but I've really only felt disadvantaged from this when it comes to site control/removal (Easy Come, Easy Go, and/or Role Reversal vs. Power to the People). He's the work horse in this deck. - 2 x Niccolo Machiavelli (Media/Purple Agent, Assassin/Rare, 3 cost, 4/4, FIERCE, Discard a Memory) Agree that he usually comes out early if the initial draw includes a Political Patronage. Only have two, but not 100% sure I would play 5 if I had 5, as his 4 life is a little short if I drop a Wanted Posters). - 2 x San Gimignano (Gold Site, Assassin/Rare, 5 cost, 8 influence, Your Score in all Regions becomes 0) I would play 5 of these if I could. The current meta game seems to really favor agent removal over site removal, and you can get these out for the same cost as Ezio. I would drop the 3 bigs mentioned below and put 3 more of these sites into the deck if I had them. Dropping these on the table typically makes it an agent fight for one other region as the region on which this plays typically ends up under my control. - 1 x Forli (Gold Site, Assassin/Rare, 8 cost, 6 influence, No ability) Similar thoughts as the SG site, but not nearly as fast. I'm not sure I would play this if I had 5xSG in the deck. - 2 x Lorenzo de'Medici (Media/Purple Agent, Assassin/Rare, 10 cost, 5/5, FIERCE, Lorenzo de'Medici gets +5/+5 if you have 20 max resources or more.) Played only due to his 5 power and FIERCE attribute. He typically plays as a swap for Exit Stage Right, otherwise he often gets discarded when Niccolo plays. I would consider dropping these both for 2 more SG sites, but I'd have to rethink the Exit Stage Right synergy (which I greatly enjoy). - 1 x Leonardo Da Vinci (Scholar/Green Agent, Assassin/Rare, 10 cost, 5/5, CUNNING/FIERCE, Draw 2 Memories) Typically plays late game, sometimes swapped in with Exit Stage Right. The draw and fierce attributes are the primary benefits. Not sure if I'd play more or less of him (only have 1 anyways). - 3 x Cristina Vespucci (Media/Purple Agent, Assassin/Uncommon, 4 cost, 0/4, target Agent gets +3/0) Almost always plays after another agent and just before they campaign. Occasionally, plays and boosts an opponent agent if Tactless Theatrics and an Exit Stage Right are in hand. - 2 x Wanted Posters (Media/Purple Action, Assassin/Uncommon, 7 cost / +1 resource, All Agents get -0/-4) Mass agent control. I tend to play Magnetic Personality on Niccolo if necessary to keep him on the board. - 2 x Tactless Theatrics (Media/Purple Action/Surprise, Assassin/Common, 2 cost / +1 resource, Target Agent gets -0/-2) Early agent control. Typically plays early to get the resource boost. - 2 x Exit Stage Right (Media/Purple Action, Assassin/Rare, 4 cost, Replace target Agent with a random Agent from its Controller's Sequence) Serves two purposes -- plays out as agent control if opponent plays a big, otherwise, played just before Cristina Vespucci is declared as a blocker to swap for another agent and gain agent advantage, with odds favoring one of the bigs being pulled. The worst case is that it plays as a SAFE boost on the block if another Cristina swaps in. - 3 x Pick Your Poison (Scholar/Green Action, Assassin/Rare, 3 cost / +1 resource Search Opponent Sequence for a Memory. Put it in your Hand. Randomize) Plays as control against any of agents/sites/actions, pulling out opponent victory conditions or counters, or to supply myself with additional victory conditions. A nice all-around meta control action, as well, without having to commit to one particular type of counter. - 5 x Magnetic Personality (Media/Purple Action/Surprise, Assassin/Uncommon, 3 cost, Target Agent gets +3/+3, FIERCE, and RECOVER until it finishes resting) Either played as a victory condition (kept in-hand unless discard is pending) or as agent protection. Have won several matches with 3 back-to-back-to-back MPs before. Also used to keep Niccolo alive when a Wanted Posters hits. - 2 x Clothes Make the Man (Media/Purple Action/Surprise, Assassin/Uncommon, 2 cost, Put a copy of target launching Action in your Hand. Its cost is 0) Often played to either mirror a control action that the opponent plays (site or creature control) or provide a 6 card draw and +2 resources for 8 cost when I play In-Depth Analysis. Also, a nice all-around meta control surprise, since it lets me counter site/action/agent depending on the game conditions without having to commit to one of those 3 in the deck specifically (so long as one such action is played first). - 3 x Power to the People (Gold Action, Assassin/Uncommon, 2 cost / +1 resource, Target Site's Influence becomes 0) I'd prefer to be able to play Easy Come, Easy Go or Role Reversal, but with Ezio in deck, I'd rather avoid the no Templar lock out. Site control, aside from CMtM and PYP. - 4 x Knowledge is Power (Scholar/Green Action, Assassin/Uncommon, 1 cost / +1 resource, Draw a Memory) Nice combination of early-game resource boost + card draw. - 4 x In-Depth Analysis (Scholar/Green Action, Assassin/Uncommon, 6 cost / +1 resource, Draw 3 Memories) Mid-game mechanism to keep cards coming. - 2 x Political Patronage (Media/Purple Action/Surprise, Assassin/Rare, 0 cost / +1 resource, Gain 3 resources) Only have two, else I would probably play 5 of these. Allows day one play of Niccolo and or PYP. Allows day two play of Ezio or SG. - 5 x Knowledge has a Price (Scholoar/Green Action/Surprise, Assassin/Common, 0 cost / +3 resource, Opponent draws a Memory) Early game boost to resources, as card advantage is not really a concern for this deck most of the time (the aim is to assert control as early as possible before the extra cards can be leveraged). Meta-info / stats: * 11 x Gold, 22 x Media/Purple, 17 x Scholar/Green * 13 x Agents, 3 x Sites, 34 x Actions * 20 x Rare, 23 x Uncommon, 7 x Common I think that fast heavy counter/control will give this sequence fits, but I most often run into either Noble/Official rush, Thieves rush, or Red Site decks. I haven't had to play opponents playing full-on control, but have had issues with site/control. Opponents playing other rush-to-big decks can be tricky depending on draw luck as well. I have had resource screw several times surprisingly, but at least did not lose the majority of those cases. Interesting to see how the meta game continues to develop. I personally prefer to have balance and counters for as many types of decks as possible, but I'm not sure that is a great idea. |

Please don't spam the forum. If you really hate the game and think you wasted enough time on it, the last thing you want to do is waste even more time in the game's forum.

As far as the consumer costs, I've dropped about as many $$ into this game as I would a marquee computer game, perhaps a little bit more. I'll treat it as a slightly gratuitous Christmas gift to myself =). Granted, it may not have the full-on production values that some of those games bring (in-game cut scenes, voice acting, etc.), but if I play this game for a couple of months, I will be satisfied. But to each their own goes the saying. Really, it will be interesting to see how the economics of these kinds of games play out, where big publishing houses try to create new games for the platform (rather than recouping investments made on other gaming platforms and porting them to iOS). I would expect that many of the artistic assets in the game were reused in some way from the other AC games, but there would still be significant development costs to recoup in terms of developing the game engine, the server integrations, and some of the graphical design elements. That all translates to (probably) several years engineering time (assuming the development team was > 1 developer, and that the game itself took more than a few months to develop) as well as the time to integrate/create the artistic assets and design the mechanics. With content and game engine/mechanic enhancements pegged for future updates, there is a recurring maintenance cost as well in terms of engineering time. I'm wondering how companies can even hope to achieve the necessary volume on games that ship for $1-2 (before the 30% Apple App Store tax, as well). I hope this pricing model does not dead end after a few releases from the major developers. I certainly cannot imagine this being sustainable without IAP as another revenue source. Maybe something to go hit up GDC for in future years to see what the industry folks say. Just as a simple scenario, imagine that only 1 engineer employee spent time on this game for 6 months and was miraculously able to do all of the game design, balancing, development, integration of artistic assets, and testing. Let's say that's 50K engineering time (half a year's salary plus benefits at a fairly conservative/low-ball rate for software engineers). That means to recoup the cost of the game, revenue needs to meet or exceed 50K/0.7 (Apple gets a 30% cut) = ~$71K. Let's say that they priced at $0.99 out of the gates. They need 71,000 downloads to recoup their up-front cost. Now a simple Google search for average download metrics turns up this page. In the $0.99 range, the average downloads per app is on the order of 10K (225,480,940 / 23,107), but we know that not every app gets downloaded as much as the really popular ones. But, we also should figure that the conservative estimate above is probably several times less than the real cost to develop the game. Also, Game Center reports 3,899 players last I checked. Given the metrics posted in the link, I would've questioned coming out of the gates at anything but an initial $0.99 price point, but maybe the general gaming population vs. hard-core CCG crowd discussion could have played into their decision. Anyways, the gist of this whole thought was that I'm not very confident that Ubi can recoup the development and maintenance costs of this game without significant IAP revenue. The future of that (if any) seems like it would depend on continuous updates to the platform while trying to minimize their future costs. Hopefully they have a competitive structure and a framework for creating expansions ready to go that won't cost them too much to implement. And yes (as a nod to Spatzi and other's with early adopter frustration), a rough launch may have significantly impacted the commercial success of the game. PS: Brontobeuf -- you're lucky that your baby lets you have a hand free to play in the middle of the night. When my son was 1 month old, I was forced to walk up and down the stairs for hours =P. @Spatzi:
Please stop attacking me. I don't like to justify myself like you're asking me to do. I will, but I'd rather talk about the deck that has just been posted after you instead. I worked during 5 years for Blizzard as a manager. I gained more than correctly my life thanks to the video game industry. So, I will certainly not be ashamed of the time and money I spent in video games during my life (which is huge I guess). It's just natural. I'm buying a lot of PS3 games, PC games, and App at full price and frequently, I also pay IAP like here. How much? I didn't count (and I would have to convert to your money)... I'd say less than an iPad. Now I'm in China, with my wife and kids. This country is one of the best in the world for tourism, but one of the most boring for strangers to live in. And, if it was not enough, My baby has digestive troubles, so we have to keep him on watch 24/24 with my wife. So, you know, I'm playing on my iPad near his bed so I can monitor him while crushing bad decks. CCTV1 is not of my taste and I have no books here. Also, I just love the game. I hope this will satisfy your thirst for answers about me. Again, stay cool and stop being agressive. I don't really care about your feedback here, I was mainly talking about your tone, full of frustration and rage. That's the real sad thing here. @Proc19: Media is my favorite faction so far. The flavor is great in it, and the cards are all full of tricks. ![]() Love the deck. I hope you'll get your copies asap to improve oit the way you want. Exit Stage Right has to stay. It's a strong card, and your deck is good with it (i posted a deck fully based on it with Carnefice on the official forum thread btw ^^). I'm really not sure about Knowledge has a price in your deck. I don't like the card (without mass control in the deck), and maybe you should play one more Knowledge is power and 4x Plentifull Crop instead. Giving a card to a starter deck is ok, but giving a card to another strong deck is lethal. [edit: removed the crappy idea and replaced it by a good one] you should try Scientific Espionage. It's a key card in my deck. Think about how your deck will behave against the Pantheon/Ri combo, and you'll see that you would just lose to it. This card is the solution to this. And a quite radical one. The meta is innexistent. We're facing 80% of Order/Scholar decks, a few sites based decks, and some thieves. Exotics are Pantheon/RI, or some action based combos. I also faced a few biggies decks, but they are not that strong because they are slow and unstable. So, if your deck can beat a site deck and the starter deck, you will get 95% wins. That's not really a metagame I'd say. ![]() I hope what GabeBot just said will happen quickly (he forgot to talk about the Auction House!!!). If we have a tournament structure, a metagame will emerge, and that will be interesting. Last edited by Brontobeuf; 12-19-2011 at 05:11 PM.. |
