WIFI again.. (apologies, as I made a thread on this way back)
Question: is the wireless receiver on the Vita cack, or is mine just faulty? In the 3 months I've now connected to various wifi networks and it's always the same story, very poor reception unless I'm right close to the router. Example: In the same room as router, usually no issues within 5 meters or so (3 bars) Next door to router... (behind a thin stud wall) - approx 3 meters from router - 1 to 0 bars. I find that unacceptably poor for a modern wireless device. Anything else I connect (iphone/ipad/laptop) never, EVER, has any issue with signal anywhere in my flat - 2 bars minimum, always full on the ipad/laptop. I spoke with UK Playstation support today who only succeeded in patronising me, rather than acknowledging I understood signal will vary across different devices, though they did offer a replacement via collect and return courier etc. So is it worth sending back for a refurb unit / and 3 months on, have any of you noticed anything similar? |

Hi Mash, so you can actually use yours upstairs ( i assume your router is downstairs?) ...passing through walls and floors, I don't think my Vita woulkd have a chance at that

Ahh right, well then I guess there's no point me sending off for another, though I think this is totally unacceptable from Sony, especially in a device which is ideally always connected. :/

I never give the signal bars much thought. They may stay at 1 or 2 bars, but I never have any problem with the connection. Everything loads fine, and multiplayer stays smooth.

I seem to have gotten lucky with this Vita, its my first and only. I have not experienced any Wifi connectivity issues, although I do know it has plagued others. I think after all the problems I had with dead pixels on my psp as soon as I powered it on for the first time, its the least the sony gods could do for me. I returned 7 psps because of dead pixels on the screen, I could not catch a break. My final psp only had 1 dead pixel that fired red on black screens only. I said to hell with it and kept it at that point...

I've only had one issue with my wi-fi. It was with Paint Park and I had selected to connect to others, I didn't realize it was through Ad Hoc. After leaving the ap, Ad hoc would not turn off and I couldn't reconnect to wi-fi to get to PSN or anything else. Had to eventually hard reboot to get it back.
On another note, Spider Man was released on iOS devices and the thread is a mess. Lot's of people frustrated over how it runs on their devices as well as some Vita bashing in there also. Don't really care and don't want to get involved... |

I haven't had any connectivity issues with my Vita at all. It gets better reception than my iPod touch 4th gen and 3DS do. It normally has three or four bars when I'm several feet away- about 20 (or around 6 meters).
The only thing I've noticed the Vita doing, is it will automatically disconnect from the wi-fi when you're not using it for anything as a power saving feature. So if I'm browsing a web page and it doesn't have anything to load after a few minutes, then it will disconnect. As soon as something needs to load, it reconnects. Do you have a 3G or a wi-fi only? Ive got the wi-fi. |
