(This is why some investigative journalism in gaming news media would have quite the impact, as opposed to the current state of news reporting on games, which is largely or completely based on recounting information and reviews. If iOS developers started seeing a backlash from dubious business practices from various game blogs and news sites, such as TA, they would be more vary of such moves, and consider their options more carefully before acting.
If gaming, and these small injustices, is important enough to actually waste journalistic effort on is another question entirely
But it has happened before. Several times. We buy a game - it goes free with unlock - if you bought it and delete it (after updating) then the game does not recognize you as a paying customer and you have to pay again.
Or another thing that has happened - the game in the current state goes free (after people have paid for it) and then the update includes more level or content that needs to be paid for - so those that bought the game before the update must pay again to get the extra content whereas a new customer only pays once.
