But is there a way to improve quality further for the new iPad?

It turns out that this basically a direct port of the PC version with some obvious changes for touch support. This is great news because now we can use the standard GTA 3 modding tools for Windows to add some cool mods. The best part is that you don’t even need to be jailbroken to do this!!

VEHICLES

Below are some files for you to download and add to GTA 3 to change the stock cars to real world cars (all tested by myself, iPhone4S, iPhone4). Some of these new cars have custom wheel rims, so to get the custom rims to show correctly, you'll have to install the dmagic1wheel Mod first!! If you want use a custom car, you'll have to rename the .dff and .txd files (that you've downloaded) to the correct car that it will replace...for example:

Download the Mini Cooper S... this will come with a BANSHEE.TXD file and a banshee.dff file (and a read me file for handling and colours). These files are great if you want to use it instead of the banshee, but to use it for say the Stallion, you'll have to rename them STALLION.TXD and stallion.dff respectively.

Custom Wheel Rims:
dmagic1wheel

If you're struggling installing the Wheel Mod, then download WheelModInstalled and just add to gta3.app and replace the original files, easy. There are three files to replace, default.dat, default.ide and NOWHEEL.dff :thumb:

To use the Wheel Mod you have to tell the car to use it.

For example, open the default.ide and find the kuruma and change the wheel to use the nowheel.dff, number 89, like below...



To check that this has worked, start a new game and you should now see this...

The Wheels are invisible because SOME of the custom cars have custom wheels, this mod will make the stock wheels transparent (for that model) so you can see the custom wheels in all their glory

Once you have the cars installed correctly, you can add the car colours (not all cars come with custom colours), you'll find them in the readme that came with the downloaded car, these colours need to be added to the carcol.dat file. Most of the cars also come with how that particular custom car should handle (also found in the readme), you'll add this to the handling.cfg

IMPORTANT

To add custom cars you'll need to be editing the right .img file for your device. GTA3 Mobile comes packaged with two different sets of cars, first the iPhone4S and the iPad2 are treated to the xbox cars textures (Hi-Res, 3D engines etc) and the iPhone4 and below use the PC textures. The image file you'll be editing will be:

gta3_pvr.img for iPhone4S & iPad2
oldveh_pvr.img For iPhone4, iPhone3Gs & iPad

Hi Jonathan... yes you are correct that some of the cars come with custom handling, you don't NEED to do it, but it will give you a better feel for the cars

I'm fully aware that the links are down for you guys at the moment... I'm back online but this connection is only temporary. I will have my net back online by the end of this month (hopefully). Been haunting this thread a lot in the past few months, and I must say, it has been incredibly helpful. Thanks K0N3!

Unfortunately the 💩links weren't working, but thanks to the tutorial I learned how to install mods for gta3, and man it's amazing what one can do.💩

On my iPad 3, I have


-imported different, higher poly cars
-modded handling for various cars, mostly minor
-enabled antialiasing
-added more blood
-added floating newspapers around the city💩
-added tire skid marks, blood and dirt skids
-added real time 💩reflections on cars (probably the best mod of all)
-revamped particle system
-vastly improved lighting effects-looks VERY nice
-modded the dodo so it is easier to fly

Not sure if all these would run on an a4, but they should work fine on a5 devices and above. I'll pull together links to the sites I got the mods from and tutorials when I can, just thought that since K0N3 is away for awhile I'd help some of you out. It would be really nice if I could just upload my .img file, my handling file, and my .set file so I don't have to re find all the links again, what's a good free site to use? I might be able to upload the files this weekend.💩

My mod is specifically designed to push the iPad's 1gb of ram. Still, the game never fails to run at 60 or so fps, so much more can be done. I'm currently working on getting fly
able helicopters in game. I know there are stunt parks we can add, too. Just been bogged down lately.

What it Does:
Revamps the explosions, reflections, and adds better water to liberty city.

Instructions:
Download the mod and follow the instructions on the notepad file using iexplorer to replace the files. Unfortunately, I do not have acsess to a PC as of right now, so I cannot do a walkthrough for installing the mod. As I recall, the notepad file was self explanatory, but only replace your particle.cfg file, located in the main directory. If you add any of the other ones, your game will crash upon loading. Do so at your own risk!!

Also, if you are adventurous and tech savvie, gta garage is a great site to find new mods. I've tried a lot of them, and some work, some crash your game upon loading while others are simply buggy. Don't try the hd vehicle mod or any mod that adds hd original vehicles, those crash your game. Probably the excessively high poly count, though I have a hard time believing that.

Finally, back up your save files and the original particle.cfg file, just in case something goes wrong. If anyone could recommend a good free site to upload files, I will try and upload my .img (custom cars) file, my handling file and my .set file (skid smoke, tire skid marks, leaves/newspapers around city, more blood, etc).
