Its nice being able to add friends and get gifts and gifting. And it seems like their server is fixed or something, cause I can receive gifts now. I have almost 220k gold saved up for the seconded highest bow. =D Just need a few more level ups, then I'll be rocking. =D
Yeah, I grind Act 4, lev 1, 4 & 9 a lot. Their easier for me and I can make at least A rating most of the time. |

Still, I did notice that the 160k bows has +stun chance, which I know doesnt work on bosses, so I certainly understand skipping that bow. Its BS that stun doesnt work on bosses, why would you pick a bow with it when you can get one with a better special? Still, I'd get the 90 (which has crit), upgraded it a bit and buy some armor. I wanted to elaborate a little on some game impressions I have after getting my main (warrior class) to level 71, and an alt rogue to level 22.
I will firstly mention that I haven't spent anything on IAP in this game so far. My strategy has been to grind all gold and xp via doing each map and associated quest until I can achieve AAA rating. In some cases, I've played maps when I had no keys left, and abandoned the chest, but in most cases, I've picked up the game every few hours, burned off the keys and then put it down. I have a lot of criticisms about this game, but somehow it has managed to drag me in enough to want to grind anyway. Read my criticisms more as suggestions on how to make the game more engaging or fun. 1) The linear progression of item upgrades is extremely boring, especially when you take into account that fact that all armor pieces simply give stats. The game presents a tip about mixing and matching gear to suit your play-style, but the only real option I have found for this is the ring and trinket slots, and even then, there aren't a lot of options. I have seen this trend towards linear gear progression in other games, such as Battleheart, and I find it extremely unimaginative. 2) Levelling a character should give some power-up, but in this game it doesn't. It simply makes new equipment and perhaps skills available for purchase. The speed at which you will level so drastically outpaces the rate at which you will earn currency, that you very often will not be able to purchase a new skill or item at the time it is unlocked. Again, this comes back to the whole arguement of how freemium works, which some people seem to like, but I stand by the fact that there should have been a little more balance there. At least giving some free inherent stat-point boost to your character for achieving a new level would make getting beyond level 88 worthwhile. 3) There are no talent trees in the game. The only character customization choices you get are which three active skills you add to your action bar. Even the previous Dungeon Hunter games had talent trees. Not giving players choice is, again, one-dimensional, and this seems to be a trend I'm seeing in spades with this game. 4) There is no socketing or enchanting. One could argue that upgrading an item might be equivalent to enchanting. This is barely the case, since the upgrade path chooses the stats you will add. Again, there is no choice to gear customization aside from "can I afford this" or "do I want to wait 49 hours for this". The lack of socketing to add things like extra effects to weapons or extra defenses to armor is also boring. I tend to, like others on this thread, not want to take weapons with additional effects such as stun, slow, knowckdown, etc. since they're irrelevant. Giving players the option to add those effects as they choose would be more fun. Again, choice for the player means more fun and GL have opted away from this path. 5) No set bonuses. If you're going to present us with a handful of set items to equip, how about at least making it fun by adding set bonuses. This would at least make me want to complete a set as I progress instead of simply hoarding gold and sticking out the grinding hoping to make it to the final tier gear while wearing level 20 items. This way, the items could have been priced lower, knowing that people would pick up all items and upgrades along the way. 6) When I've beaten all the maps in world 4 with AAA rating and finished all quests, does something new open up? I fail to see why I would continue playing after that. I can't imagine I'm going to need to be anywhere near in fully upgraded level 80-90 gear in order to do this, since I already got half way through world 4 in my 50s and have been grinding gold from world 4 level 9 for the past 4 days. There really should be some final challenges that persuade the player to continue to level 100, and fully upgrade their gear. 7) Block and dodge animations prevent my character from moving for a moment. This means that if I'm kiting around a bunch of mobs to try and AOE down a group of them, I'm better off not having any dodge or block stats and just getting hit for full damage. This is absurd. 8) Active skills don't scale with weapon. They become quickly obsoleted by weapon damage. Also, they put a cooldown on your weapon attack (which additionally lowers DPS.) This is absurd. 9) I can equip high-level rings and trinkets that I have purchased on my main on a level 1 alt. The level requirement doesn't seem to apply once something is purchased. I am guessing this is the same with gear, and I may delete the rogue alt and create a warrior to confirm this. Being able to equip the fully upgraded high level gear on a level 1 toon would effectively make them high level (aside from skills) for free, since power comes exclusively from gear. This seems like a bug to me. |

@Rozetta-
All very true, but with the game not selling well does Gameloft care? I assume we will probably still get the multiplayer update, since they originally said "January" for that. But if that doesnt trigger sales, they are probably done with it is my guess. If you want to add flaws, fairy's are basically un-upgradeable given the prohibitive cost, yet like the skills, their attack becomes underpowered. Similarly, the "chose the right fairy" message before waves is ridiculous because there are only two choices, the 2nd fairy is very expensive, and there is currently no real reason to ever get it given its limited effect. The mission design is badly flawed, especially for the kill x bosses with fairies, because the recharge is so horrible and they do so little damage. The "hit X with a skill" missions dont seem to count all of your hits correctly. The "kill X with a skill" dont seem to always register if the only time you use the skill on a boss is the final hit. Of course, its initially fairly hard to figure out what enemies are called what. Does the term "Dement" have any particular meaning? Am I supposed to realize that is the low level enemy just by reading that? Finally, the shaman only has one terrible offensive skill, making the kill missions particularly burdensome for that class (archer is a bit better). The listed heal on the shaman heal skill goes 5, 7, 9 and 1100 with each upgrade. However, when fully upgraded it always heals for 4200, and with lesser upgrades it sometimes, but not always, seemed to heal for more than the listed value. No idea why. Another poster reports that the archer skill weaken armor doesnt seem to work. **Note that skills do scale with one of the stats, possibly "power" or maybe with level, I havent examined this closely. However, they dont seem to scale enough given the delay you mentioned. Archer's quickshot does remain viable midway into Act 4 if fully upgraded, but the shaman's sole offensive skill is actually significantly inferior to a normal attack, at least with the one upgrade I have put in. This is the thread on the matter from the official forums: http://forum.gameloft.com/index.php/topic,39327.0.html All they're saying is "they're working on an update" to fix the key issue but no ETA. |
