App description: Hatchi is a retro-looking iPhone and watch app sure to get the nostalgia burning for all those who cared for a virtual pet back in the 1990s when they were at the height of their popularity. Just as with the keychain-sized pets of the 90s, iPhone, iPod and iPad users now will feed, clean, play with and generally look after their pets to ensure they grow up to be healthy, happy little Hatchis. He needs YOU!

It's hilarious, but I really, really, really don't want Big Poppa Pump (his Hatchi monster) to bite the dust. I've somehow bonded with the thing TouchArcade.com

This is so tiny and cute. I used to drag my Tamagotchi with me everywhere when I was young and I cried when the thing grew up and flew away. I'm rather happy to see something inspired by it on iOS. I've been looking for this exact thing ever since I bought an iDevice.

However, one thing that bothers me a bit about the UI is that I don't think there's any need for the Select button and the arrows flanking it since we can tap on the icons instead. I think it's intended to emulate Tamagotchi's control scheme, but the UI looks a bit cluttered with it there.
I'd also like Smarts to be re-labeled as Intelligence and Active changed to Activity. And would infant/newborn/baby be more appropriate than child as a first stage? These are both just semantics and I'm not all that fussed about them, but I believe they merit mention.
The iTunes info looks somewhat lacking in content, which I think is something that needs expansion. I always read those before purchasing an app, and if I didn't read up on this on TA, I'd be a tad hesitant about buying it.

I'd love to see updates that let us interact with Hatchi more directly, such as minigames [presumably ones that Hatchi plays better or worse in accordance with its stats?], a wider selection of food and activities that affect its overall health and evolution path, and more detailed stats [personality, gender, weight, food and activity preferences, et cetera]. And more evolution paths; I don't think you can ever have enough of those.

Clicked "Buy" first and then read the app description.

Have to say I'm happy with my purchase of this. My pet is 1hr 42mins old so far.
The graphics and nice and sharp on my iPod 4G small simple animations for the activities like youd expect. A simple stat telling you how long it's been alive.

Mini games sounds like a cool addition, just to give some extra interactivity.
And more detailed stats are always welcome.
Id love to see some kind of high score board keeping track of all you dead pets and how long they were alive for. (someone in the upcoming thread said a graveyard, that would be really cool with their stas on the headstones).

Overall though if your looking for a tamagotchi like app then this is looking like the beat available. Well worth 69p.

Just curious...is our Hatchi still "active" if we close the app through the multitasking bar? I'm not entirely sure how push notifications work in this instance yet, but like...if I close the app, will I get a push notification telling me that my Hatchi is awake (it's sleeping now) and needs me to clean it's poop?

EDIT: Just checked on my Hatchi after closing the app almost 30 mins ago and the "Sleep" bar has gone up. Looks like the little guy's always alive. Let's see if I can neglect it long enough to get a push notification. Hope it doesn't die. >_>
