This "update" pretty much sealed the deal for me. *Yawn* DBC
*grin* that is why I went for a 64GB iPad. The 8GB on my old iPod definitely weren't enough. Now I don't have to worry about space anytime soon...
Really wish you could expand the iDevices with additional storage as needed. But then, when I look at what a mess this is under Android (I read an article on that recently, and boy, the implementation of how to access additional storage is one big catastrophe for developers under Android) , maybe Apple's approach isn't that bad.

Question: As we seem to move away from SW more and more, should we setup a chat&hangout thread in the Lounge part of the Forums? Don't want to lose touch with you folks, had too much fun here

I think that was the original purpose of the Lounge thread, though do whatever seems to work, I'd say

I'm floating around on TouchArcade, although less frequently on this thread seeing as this game itself is getting less attention and activity: I have a habit of crashing threads which involve games that people have recommended to me and I ended up picking up, though...

Sadly, as my 32 isn't nearly enough, I dread that 64 would quickly become the same...

Yeah, as much as I would love MicroSD or something, it doesn't sound like the implementation works as well as the idea sounds...

As for the Lounge, I'm all ears. I can tell you it's a bit heartwarming to see old SW buddies showing up in other threads I'm currently posting in...

Be well,

DBC

Yeah, with this latest update, it truly seems like SW might be dying. I'll keep my eyes open for other games you might like, and I still owe you a PM.

Admittedly, I keep not writing because it's a lot of material and I'm frankly tired of writing.

Suffice it to say, I'm fine, but my Graduate program got a little more interesting last semester than I would have preferred...

Hope all is well with you,

DBC

Part of the reason I'm still involved with the game is because the Star Warfare Wiki is still thriving, due to an influx of new players and people who are trying to get to that same point we were all at when bosses became a complete walk in the park. I'm fairly happy to give people advice, primarily because I like thinking, and I talk too much anyway >.>

As for actually playing the game itself...I'm only fighting Serpent every so often because it keeps me on my toes, and the alien wave keeps me interested for long enough. Otherwise, I think I've run out of things to discover and analyse in the game -- my involvement is more advisory than anything nowadays.

Take your time with the PM, I know how real life is all-consuming, particularly with all the writing you're already doing in your grad program. Waiting isn't gonna kill me, though I might periodically spam your inbox with anything from game talk to other little tidbits about life or whatnot

Main thing I'd like to say: take care of yourself. Online communities and friendships are great, but I've always understood and encouraged people to take care of pressing real-life issues first

Default In need of some general tips...

I picked this up the day it was released for iOS, yet never had a real chance at playing due to backlog and many other game releases. I've been pretty much hoarding free money and Mithril offers on and off though. I'm going to start some serious playing soon but needed some suggestions on weapons, armor, backpacks, tips, etc...

My current wishlist for weapons in late(r) game is:

- WindBlade.
- Trinity Bow.

I have enough saved up for both currently (I'm quite fond of swords, bows, and anything balanced. Not a real fan of the slow & powerful) and a good amount left over to spare. What are other weapons that are solid choices to work towards?

I did get the Rookie iap, but I'm not really feeling the shotgun that came with it and I'm lost as far as upgrading it and/or the beginners machine gun (don't wanna waste cash). What weapons/armors/backpacks should I be working towards until late game content? Is getting the Light Bow worth getting until I can obtain the Trinity Bow?

EDIT: I'll be playing primarily Single Player and PVE from time to time. I'm not a PvP type of player if this helps...

Hey, welcome to the thread

Most of us in here are veterans by now, but there's one particular "slow and powerful" you'll want to look in the long term at if you want an easier time with the bosses: the M-27B1. It's a fully automatic gatling gun, but it's "slow" in the sense that it will decrease your speed by two points.

At this point though, I'd suggest you start looking at armour pieces which give you gold bonuses, because you'll be needing a fair bit of it to upgrade weapons. The ECO bag in particular will come in quite handy if you're not interested in the SAM bag, because that will cost about as much as your Windblade (though that being said, the SAM bag is very much worthwhile for speeding up your finances).

As for weapons...avoid shotguns like the plague: they've got almost no range, making them too dangerous to use against aliens and bosses. The Morpheus is the only one which may be useful, but it's fairly expensive. I'd also suggest you ignore the Light Bow in favour of the Trinity, because if you wanted a bow for PvP, the Trinity is significantly more powerful. Be warned that the bows are best suited as close- to mid-range weapons: their arrows actually move quite slowly compared to your other guns.

Swords are useful because they don't use ammo, but they suffer similar range limitations to the shotguns for PvE. They're more useful because they've got a wide lateral range with their slashes, but don't use them against the bosses. They'll be considerably more handy in PvP.

The M-27B1, I've already told you about above: despite its speed penalty, you can actually use it as an all-range weapon once you get used to its handling. The main drawback is its price, but it'll be worth every piece of gold you put into it once you start ploughing through enemies like you're mowing the lawn. Other useful weapons include the NOVA-27 and the Crab, though they don't come too cheap either.

The snipers can come in handy, but they're probably not to your liking: they're pretty much the "slow but powerful" weapons of this game. You also have RPGs, but I've never been too fond of using them outside of specialised situations myself.

-----------------------------

Now, as for actual progression advice...as I said earlier, armor pieces with gold bonuses come in particularly handy. Armor pieces with speed bonuses also work quite well, because you don't need that much HP if you know how to dodge attacks. If, however, you desperately want more HP, then look at chest pieces, because that's where all the HP is at.

Since you've already got the Rookie package, equip the full Fortune Armor first. Personally, I wouldn't recommend you look at buying a full set of armour until you can either buy the Thunder or the Atom.

For weapons, the general advice around here is to buy yourself a Cutter (first sword) if you're having ammo issues, and then buy the FL334AR Assault Rifle for cost-effective ranged combat. If you can already buy the Windblade (I think there's a rank restriction on it) and you're dead certain you want it, get it straight off: its starting power is stronger than the Cutter's fully upgraded power.

To get gold, try clearing the first few single player maps to begin with (Frontline, Energy Core, Space Station). Infinite waves are useful for farming gold: just look for a spot on each map where you can comfortably fight with your back against the wall, because then you only need to defend what you see in front of you with nothing spawning behind you (Lair is a particularly good map for camping if you use either of the big hills on that map).

Once you've familiarised yourself with the aliens and their attack patterns, you might want to start taking a look at trying Wrath of Mantis if you've got the FL334AR and some upgrades on it, because defeating a boss gets you quiiiiiite a bit of gold.

That's...most of the general advice, I think. Players tend to develop different playstyles depending on their equipment preferences and preferred forms of combat, so go with what works for you (e.g. as much as I said that swords aren't ideal PvE weapons due to their lack of range, DBC over there is one hell of an untouchable ninja with them ).

I'd also suggest checking out Sheinfell's player's guide, found here: he spent quite a bit of time writing that up, and I remember there heaps of useful info in there -- let's not let his documentation go to waste

Also check out the Star Warfare Wiki for more tips and advice: we're quite happy to give advice as veterans, but there's also a thriving community over there of newer and veteran players. The landing page I linked you to directs you to a place where there are players who are willing to assist newer players with boss fights, so if you'd like any help with boss fights and finances, read the page, sign up, and then give one of those "Mercenaries" a holler

Welcome to the thread!

Thanks for the praise on the guide, undead, but that comes somewhat undeserved.
I never got past writing up the basic terminology, so I would not even call it a guide

@GodSon: Hello and welcome to the merry bunch!
The Wiki undead mentioned has way more information , I recommend checking it out.
However, what *is* good in the SW Player's Group is
The equipment showcase here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/group....scussionid=436
Many of use noted down what we use, and why.
And the weapon combos, here: http://forums.toucharcade.com/group....scussionid=617

What timezone are you in, and when do you usually play? If we overlap somewhere (preferably in CET evening), I might actually dust off my armor and chaingun, if you need a hand in bossfights.

Thanks for the very informative response undead.exe. I'm also the "ninja" type so I'm looking forward to honing my skills with the Windblade once I rank up high enough to get it (same for Trinity). I like the look of NOVA-27, but whats its firing type? Also, whats the pros and cons to the Power Glove (Megaman fan here )?

I will be wish-listing all the weapons you recommended and going through the guide you linked, thanks!

Last question (for now), I'd also prefer using the least amount of energy possible as far as ammo goes...is there a solid suit and/or backpack that gives a little to no energy usage bonus so I can conserve as much as possible?

Thank you Sheinfell, I'll be going bookmarking those links for reference.

I'm in PST timezone and play evenings mostly. I'd greatly appreciate some bossfights, I just need to get up to speed with better weapons and armor 1st.
