NO. I have been playing LOL for over a year now and I only spent money to buy my characters skins.

League of Legends is free, and the only things you cant get with in-game currency are the different character skins, and the boosts that increase the amount of player XP or in-game currency gain, both of which are still regularly received every game, whether you win or lose.

Or you can also spend cash if you are impatient, but NO you are NEVER forced to pay anything in LOL, and you still get to experience EVERYTHING. You'll only miss seeing your Champs in different costumes.

In Plants War, getting the Heroes unlocked alone already costs money. No way you'll be able to get all of them without paying real cash. The army slots too. Derp.

I don't mind paying for games, but when you just sell raw power for money, you undermine the game narrative. You can try to play better, but the game is designed to get too hard to beat without paying to power up. But if you pay too much the game gets too easy. It's like the designers abdicated their role of creating a sense of progression and purpose. And I agree with Art, it's pretty lame to give out upgrade points, with no clue how to spend them, and no recourse if you guess wrong.

Yeah, and maybe you're wasting your points if you spend them on your first hero, you need to save them for the better heroes, who knows?

@C.Hannum: Just wondering what stage are you on?

Yeah, the game is pretty fun. I just saw I think stage 15 (or 14?) that you have enough "skill points" to use 4 army slots, but to unlock the 4th army slot you need to pay 100 leaves. And I passed 14 stages and got a few gold stars on the lower few levels and only had 10 leaves..I just deleted the game. The game never really got too hard, and I was using the second hero. I was guessing in the later stages (especially on the hell difficulty), the enemy may have 6 army slots and I'm still on 3 army slots.. =P lol.. The gold I earn isn't the problem, its the leaves. But all in all, I still quite enjoyed it. With the same hero, I had fun trying different styles using different skills.

About League of Legends, I don't have experience in it, but my coworker played it a lot. He's pretty good, and didn't need to spend a dime on it. From what he described, the paid stuff is mostly for vanity stuff. And sound like from him, the LoL is pretty balanced for the most part..otherwise, the game probably wouldn't have been so popular for this long.

Up to stage 18, unlocked all coin heroes, and only have one more coin plant ally to unlock. Looks like the Speed Leafy is the better of the coin heroes with my play style.

This is all missing the forest for the trees. My point is that this complaining about this game potentially costing $12 but not forcing you to pay when you *can* spend hundreds on a popular game like LoL (but also not being forced to pay) is asinine. You can play this game for 10-12 hours easy and not pay a dime. Most people don't pay for LoL, nor do they continue with it, most people won't pay for this game, nor will they continue with it. I think Legendary Heroes, stability issues aside, is a much better DotA style game for iOS, but, ohnoes, you'll also have to pay if you expect to unlock all the heroes.

I'm currently on level 11, and the game is still really easy for me right now, even on hard/hell modes. Haven't seemed to hit the IAP wall yet, if there is one at all.
Currently I'm just spending all my coins on heroes and units. It's a waste to spend them on stat points or items, IMO, since you can get so many items just by beating a level.

I don't think anyone is complaining about it potentially costing $12. I have plenty of money, I don't care if it costs $1200. What I don't like is the model where the more you pay, the easier the game gets. It's an abdication of the role of the designer, to create a progression, a sense of purpose and accomplishment.

Or you don't pay and you just play...

It's an abdication of the player's imagination to assume that the presence of a way for the designer to make money by making the game easier for those who choose to pay money is somehow robbing them of anything.

Again, that's not what I said. I don't mind games that are completely playable without paying anything but you can make the game easier by spending money. What I don't like is games that you have to spend money to get through, and the more you spend, the easier it gets. Now, perhaps there are people who get through this game without spending any money. But we can't all be as awesome as C.Hannum, right?

And since when do gamers expect to be able to beat EVERY game they play?
