Having the hardest time getting into this game, played the first couple of tutorial levels, decided I liked the casual control-pad system, and so tried to set that as my preferred control scheme in the options.
However, if I try to play any of the tutorial levels (except "Casual Controls"), it reverts straight back to accelerometer or simulator controls. Seeing as I do not want to use tilt controls, I decided to just jump into the campaign, but am finding it frustrating because I don't know how to land properly or how to give orders.

Also as a side note, by calling the two control tutorials "Casual Controls" and "Full Control" kinda insinuates to me that I will never be able to play as well as someone who chooses to use the "Full" control scheme; is this accurate?

Yes, that is accurate. At least before the update, I couldn't roll the plane or do a 180º loop and end up upside-down going in the opposite direction. I definitely think you would be at a disadvantage using this mode.

Just put it on Accelerometer and use your iDevice as if it were the steering wheel of a plane -- push, pull, and turn. That's it. Fly in the free flight mode to get used to it. Fly the canyon in the Desert Storm map, fly through the city in City Heat or Estuary maps. You'll get used to it and love it. It's flying! And then you'll be ready for the Campaign, the Dogfights, and Online.
As Mosquito said, come checkout the Fan Page on Facebook (Maybe make an account with your flying name or Call Sign). Some good help there:

Off the top of my head, I think the explanation for giving orders to your Wingmen is in the Help.

See you in the skies!

Well half the time I play it's on bumpy public transport, completely ruling out accelerometer play unless I want to be constantly cursing because I've been sent slightly off course yet again by a corner IRL.

How big of a component is the multiplayer to this game? Will I even be able to finish the campaign and other single player scenarios with my handicapped controls? Am I going to see the AI pulling off maneuvers I can only do with the tilt controls?

edit: oh and the facebook group is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard because it's a closed group. can't see anything on it

Lol, yes, it can be hilarious playing as a passenger with Accelerometer! Try it on a swing! (I recommend Free Flight Mode again for this )

Multiplayer is where it's at. I think you will be able to complete the campaign on the bus. But use the accelerometer as soon as you get off that bus!

True, but request and you will be admitted (sort of a filter to keep it from filling up with people who don't really care) ... what is a chocolate fireguard?

It's an expression, though not one I've ever heard.

The purpose of a fireguard is to protect you from fire. Chocolate, as you probably know, melts when exposed to temperatures much lower than those within fire. So you can imagine that it would melt very quickly when anywhere near a fire. Therefore, a chocolate fireguard would be pretty useless

Or a chocolate fire guard could be very handy in protecting your chocolate from fire. So it is very useful.

nah I'm afraid Platyrrhine got it right, I meant a fireguard made out of chocolate

Been messing around with the tilt controls, and they are beautifully implemented, just a shame they don't fit my circumstantial needs. I probably still won't be using them though, just because the amount of time I play outside of commuting is small; and it'd be kind of hard to keep the same level of skill between two quite different control schemes.

My biggest gripe with the game now though is the goddamn stabilising feature. Is there any way to turn it off? (besides a different control scheme ) I really do not understand how you are expected to aim when every time you line up the sights, it moves them for you.
Oh, the accelerate and machine gun button are almost on top of each other too.

+1 to that auto stabilizing stuff. I really hope this can be addressed in a future patch. At least a button in the option menu to turn this on or off. I'd also like to disable this.

Default Online connection problem

Everything fine until I updated to the new version, now can't connect to any online multiplayer games I can see all the games but can't join/start any as its says 'connection to server lost/interrupted'. Major frustration is that rise of glory online multiplayer works fine, the problem is specific to SGAS.

Any suggestions? Please help it's killing me tks

Useless, but so tasty!

Ok, let's address some of the questions in this thread (sorry I missed so many)

-iCloud and syncing points: if you play on two devices, it will keep the best score. So don't be afraid that you'll be losing something when syncing.
-autostabilize: those are assisted schemes for people that don't know how to fly a plane with the accelerometer. We expect anybody that wants to play at a decent level to use the accelerometer as it's the only way to do the maneuvers required in online play, for example. Therefore the other controls are for very casual players. You can't even go up-side-down so that new players don't get confused. We didn't think about the bus...
-100th mission: we didn't change the AI a lot, should be roughly the same as before.
-tutorial controls: some tutorials force you to use a specific control scheme because they explain something relevant to that control.

If you have any other questions, I'm here
