I started to read Gabrien's impression and at first I thought I should skip this, but thankfully I read it through and can't wait till I can afford this

I just think it does a great job of offering a complete package. A lot of games go for a retro style claiming to offer the 16-bit experience, but I think most forget what those games were really like. They had depth. Variety. Most efforts I see get the graphics part right, but show you their whole hand within five minutes. Not so here.
The only thing I am still not wholly sold on is the ability to move the tiles while the rabbit's on them. I actually forget I'm able to do this half the time and still "build" my way to the exit because that feels more "right" somehow. I've also wished, on more than one occasion, that it were possible to drag the tiles diagonally. On a touch device, as opposed to a d-pad, I find myself instinctively trying to do this, particularly when pressured for time. |

![]() My only issue holdng me back is that I dislike scripted levels and it sounds like I'd be expected to work my way through all 25 stages just to see the only part I was really interested in.

Haven't played enough yet and I have to go out for a while, but holy crap...this really does feel like a SNES game. Crazy.

Haha. I'll take that as a compliment, metal! And pretty much, that's as high as my pixel skills can take me, though I hope I added enough color and vibrancy to keep it interesting! :P
LordGek, that's valid--and I might be up for opening Endless mode some other way, but I can tell you the main mode of play won't take you very long. I see the most replay value in the *-5 levels (for leaderboards), and Endless mode. Though the puzzles in puzzle mode are where (I hope), most people stick to and enoy.

I don't wanna spoil anything for anyone, but that first "Gatekeeper Gladys incident" just reminded me of certain parts of the final Bowser battle in Super Mario World so much (nothing gameplay related), that Carota! instantly won me over...and that speaks miles about your pixel skills. What an awesome, awesome surprise this was. Also, people who think retina ruins pixel graphics; this game, The Last Rocket, Mystery of the Japanese Werewolf and Clash Force would like to have a word with you, and then subsequently place a boot up your ass. This is how you do pixel graphics. Last edited by metalcasket; 03-20-2012 at 02:56 PM.. |

Whoohoo! I'm glad you liked that--the gate took me forever to sort out, too! Haha.
I hadn't heard of Mystery of the Japaneae Werewolf, I'll look at it after this post, though it's an honor to be among the rest! Thank you! Metal, do you mind if I quote you for my site? Gabrien, same for you! I haven't had much luck on review sites but every line and sentence I can use helps a ton.

-I'm- flattered you guys are playing it... and willing to post about how you enjoy it.
![]() I updated my website! http://signal-blue.net/carota/ Also includes reviews from AppAdvice and iFanzine. Hopefully I can garner some more today. Thanks again all! "Overall, the aesthetics and humor of this app make it a great game." -- AppAdvice.com "It tends to be more laid back than its closest genre cousins, but Carota! succeeds as a fun and varied action puzzler you’ll want to try out if you’re looking for something that’s well out of the ordinary." -- iFanzine |
