Well, I think mostly it's because many of there games feel pretty soulless. They have a very talented team but you can tell they aren't making games because they love to make games. They are making games that they think will sell well.. In the end I feel like there games have a very unpassionate vanilla feel to them. That being said I do think they have helped to elevate the mobile platform and given iPad and iPhone some much deserved attention.

Thumbs up

Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six is a great game. One of Gameloft's best FPSs to date in my opinion.

Just wanted to second this post. You pretty much said everything I wanted to say. I think if they weren't pushed into hitting deadline after deadline, they could easily be the best iOS devs in the business. But I guess it's hitting those deadlines that keeps them in budget...

When i first got into iOS gaming a year or so ago Gameloft to me was one of the best. Loved their games, bought a fair few, Dungeon Hunter 1 and 2 were brilliant.

Then of course Dungeon Hunter 3 personally really let me down, terrible arena game, ruined the good name of DH ! Six Guns 'could' have been so good but being so cheap with money from missions again ruined that. Perhaps theres a decent update but i remember playing that, having to buy bullets for say $30, complete a mission and get $50, then i have to buy more bullets as i ran out from that last mission and dont have enough, its like they force you to buy IAP's. I havent bothered with any of their other titles which are freemium.

If they released their games at $6.99 or even $9.99 i wouldnt mind as long as they arent freemium.

Would love a Dungeon Hunter IV which returns to its proper routes and is a huge RPG. Must admit Asphalt 7 was very good, only Gameloft game i've downloaded for quite some time.

Sadly some idiots must be spending a lot of IAP's as Gameloft seem to be making a lot of money and will churn out more freemium IAP games. Used to love Gameloft, since they went freemium crazy i hardly bother with them anymore and would rather buy games from small indie devs

People are spoiled around here. There is an incomprehensible level of self-entitlement that prevade's the culture of the AppStore. No matter how much you give them, people will demand more. Their insatiable appitites cannot be satisfied. If you a mouse a cookie, it's going to want a glass of milk. People are expecting games the quality of Modern Combat 3 to sell for 0.99c, with no IAP, which is somewhere between unreasonable and outright delusional.

Found it funny the other week some comment about 'only 60 levels, i'll pass' when the game was just 99c.

Some kids want 1000's of levels, tons new content all for the pricely sum of 99c nowadays.

So its a catch 22, i think ios gaming is so popular as its great, variety, plus its so cheap. But as it started off so cheap the second a game costs 5 dollars people faint and moan about it.

If all games were 5 dollars or above iOS gaming might not be as popular but at the moment theyve created a 'monster' by having games soooo cheap or worst still waiting for it to be free all the time (and then moaning theres not enough good games coming out, hello ? If you werent so cheap and bought games it would help companies !).

Cant win !

People dislike them due to freemium.

Saying that despite some negative reviews i'm happy Spiderman was $6.99 (which i would rather pay) than some freemium rubbish.

People want all games, regardless of quality, to be 0.99c with no IAP, or worst case scenario, 0.99c with IAP that is 100% optional. They don't want Freemium, paymium, or premium. They premium quality at a flat 0.99c rate, which is unrealistic and delusional. Ashalt Heat, however is 0.99c with optional IAP (which is something that Gameloft can achieve in this instance because the core of Ashalt is basically recycled).

Over on the thread for Ashalt 7, everyone is praising it. It is because Ashalt 7 is good? No. It's decent. Really, people are praising it because it is cheap. Meanwhile, the Amazing Spiderman gets heavily criticized around here because of "premium" pricing. The fact is that the Amazing Spiderman is 1/4 the price of the 3DS version, and it is still a better game. If you want a legitimate console experience, buy the 360 or PS3 version for $60. The iOS version is approximately 1/10 the price. I don't know what the heck people are expecting. If the Amazing Spiderman were at 0.99c game, few people would be knocking it.

It's also chic to bash Gamelof simply because there is a section of the iOS gaming community that's like the music snobs of handheld gaming. It's gaming elitism/snobbery at its finest.
