I am using a the Photon networking framework (http://photon.exitgames.com/), which allows me to provide cross-platform network games. It's a client/server model, but all logic runs on the client.

Photon runs over Wifi, Ethernet or 3G/4G, so no matter how you are connected you are able to play.

Right now Cubemen match-ups are based on some players hosting games and some players selecting games to join, from a list of hosted games displayed within Cubemen. This list shows you the level name, the host and their country (if I was able to identify it).

The next update (1.0.4) will introduce the ability to host password protected games so your friends can join your specific game rather than a random player joining.

Cubemen has only really been out for a few weeks, so I am sure sometimes there won't be a game to join in the list, until there are more people playing, which is why I also provided Skirmish games against AI, that are pretty challenging.

That all said, players have logged over 1600 network games played in the last few weeks, so clearly many are finding or arranging games to be played.

Cheers :-)

Thank you, and sold. Even if the game does not hold my interest (as I expect due to genre,) these are the sort of releases I want to support. Be back later with some impressions.

Wow, thanks very much. I really hope you enjoy playing Cubemen. I know TD isn't for everyone, but Cubemen is fun to play in general :-)

Really wanted this to be great - and actually it probably is - but I've just begun playing and have hit a few real frustrations...

I started my first game in Skirmish mode... To find no tutorial or help. I then figured it must need you to play defence first so I tried that and got the hints. I suggest Skirmish mode is disabled until the first level of defence is complete...

So I played defence... First wave, two of the enemy make it to my base, I kill the rest and then... Nothing. The game just does nothing. My two cubemen are sat waiting for another wave that just didn't arrive. I tried all the buttons (I think) to hopefully trigger something... At this point I've given up until either a bug is fixed or someone can explain what I did wrong. However if I did do something wrong there should be some guidance in game to help me avoid this pitfall...

Despite all this negative stuff I can see a really cool game emerging here - so I hope any issues are ironed out quickly and this gets some real love. Reckon it's going to be a keeper once that second wave arrives ;-)

Hi Jamie,

Thanks for your initial thoughts :-)

It's interesting... I didn't lock out Skirmish mode because some like to go there first, and figured those that do, don't need any help in playing as it's "expected" that it's going to be a harder gaming experience.

I can't pause a network Skirmish game for help as its realtime so adding help isn't an option.

Do you really think you wouldn't have been *just* as frustrated if you were told you HAD to play a defence game first? Even though you wanted to play Skirmish first?

With regards to the game getting stuck, yes I have had that reported a few hours ago by another player. It seems to only happen during a game that shows the first play help, and it is clearly not happening to everyone as I have seen first play videos on youtube that don't show the issue.

That said, I think I know what it is and will fix it on the next update :-)

Btw, just so you (and others here) are aware. I really appreciate all feedback I get, good and bad. Features suggestions, ways of improving Cubemen... it's all really valuable to me.

I am really active on the Steam forums listening to what users have to say about the game and have already added 13 user suggested features to Cubemen in the last 2 weeks.

I really want this evolve into the best game it can be and that will only happen based on what the players think.

Cheers :-)

Wow, I am having a silly bad day! Thanks for pointing that out. I have stared at it for so long I couldn't see the L.

You know I have sold many many copies of Cubemen and no one has ever noticed or let me know.

Bought. Enjoyed. Looking forward to the rest of the roadmap.

And, btw, the biggest selling point was the dev interaction, both here and on steam. Picked it up on iOS and Mac to show some support - I like the hotkeys on the Mac, but the iOS version has it's charm as well.
