You need to play on "Normal" (easy, really) on the first playthrough. That was also true of the PC version. If you already know the game, Normal is not much of a challenge (since you know where all the enemies are hiding).

I had a crap TV so for me they are. Lol. Can't comment on the PC version but the reviews said the PS2 graphics were much worse than that. I played this on a G4 iBook back in the day and the iPad definitely version looks much better than that.

New to Max Payne, but to me on iPad 2 And iPhone 4s, it looks awesome.

I agree, no shadows and polygons are low but the detail, a fan behind a grill on a wall in the subway spinning away, that's just better than any gameloft painted on background, and I'm not a gameloft hater as I have about 40 of their games.

Atmosphere is brilliant too. Just so cliched and entertaining.

Quick question about the cheats option in the menu. Is it only to skip level, essentially a level select option, or are there actual cheats that can be done? And how if possible?

Just in relation to the long loading or black screen for ages before the remedy logo shows up, it had a very slow start on both my devices, but once it kicked off the first time it loaded very quickly every time after that.
So basically, just wait it out the first time and it won't happen again.

i love the game although the controlls ( for shooting) could be a bit better
