Figured I'd reuse this thread and post the appinfo. The game is on sale again for $0.99. I have yet to get one of these but many seem to love them.

GA returns for a third epic interactive adventure gamebook! Please note that you do not need to have played any of the previous gamebooks in order to play this. "Cruelly taken from your homeland of Orlandes, you find yourself in a far off land at the mercy of a gladiatorial arena. Somehow trying to find a way to escape overseas, can you also unravel a potentially dangerous mystery that puts two nations on the brink of war?" "My favourite examples so far though are the iPad and iPhone-compatible Gamebook Adventures, a series of lovingly crafted and extremely well-written interactive fantasy novels. It's surprisingly engrossing stuff, the economically written narrative packing in masses of detail, while rattling out a pacy, involving story." - The Guardian "Slaves of Rema is epic in scope, but doesn't lose sight of the plight of your character. It brings the twists and turns at a satisfying pace, and all of this is supported by the wonderful art we have come to expect from Tin Man Games." - Touch Gaming Magazine "On the technical side, Slaves of Rema is almost at the level of perfection. The graphics have been optimized for the Retina display and look gorgeous, the interface is easy to understand and use, with the bare minimum of excess buttonry and the dice animations are simply superb." - TouchMyApps "I can't help but feel a certain nostalgia for these four interactive books. Without noticing it, I got sucked into the first one over the Christmas holiday and went back to the previous pages and cheat reading different plots." - App Freak Gamebook Adventures 3: Slaves of Rema is the third in a series of newly written adventure gamebooks for the iPhone, iPod Touch and now beautifully realised for the iPad! We are completely original and not simply a re-print of old gamebooks. •Includes all the interactive reading and gameplay features found in An Assassin in Orlandes and The Siege of the Necromancer. •Includes •Newly written story by Gaetano Abbondanza with illustrations by Alex Drummond and cover by Dan Maxwell that take you on a journey southwards to the vast continent of Rema. •Three difficulty levels: Classic, Bookworm and Novice. These will make Gamebook Adventures more accessible to those who want a more casual experience whilst keeping the Classic mode reserved for those who like it more hardcore! •More achievements to collect than either of our previous gamebooks. •A new Shield value enabling you to defend yourself better in battles. •You can now view book illustrations full screen by simply tapping on them in the book. •Widgets at the bottom of each page access directly to your inventory, settings and main menu. •Map update showing the continent of Rema as well as a history found within an updated Orlandes Uncovered. •Evocative soundtrack composed by our Freeplay Independent Games Awards Finalist, Adrian Watkins. •Higher resolution artwork for iPhone 4 users making use of the new retina display as well as the larger iPad screen dimensions. Gamebook Adventures is brought together through the efforts of passionate and avid gamebook enthusiasts. If you are familiar with the Fighting Fantasy, Lone Wolf or Grail Quest series then Gamebook Adventures will really appeal to you. Our aim is to give those nostalgic readers of old something new and fresh, and bring a new exciting experience to those unfamiliar with gamebooks. If you enjoy fantasy RPGs or adventure games then this is for you! Look out for more Gamebook Adventures for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad. Available now: GA1: An Assassin in Orlandes GA2: The Siege of the Necromancer GA4: Revenant Rising GA5: Catacombs of the Undercity GA6: The Wizard from Tarnath Tor GA7: Temple of the Spider God GA8: Curse of the Assassin GA9: Sultans of Rema

    Ha!

Buying isn't the problem... finding time to finally get around to playing them is. Still this is a solid deal... Is book 3 a good place to start?

I enjoy/enjoyed book three, the story is good and it's before the game books get any more complicated (in future books you have slightly more freedom of buying items and there's shops etc. )
For the sale price it's worth a shot. I picked up one of them last year sometime then bought the rest at full price, that's how much I like them.
But I always have been a bit of a choose your own adventure fan.

    Downloaded.

The shadow on the left margin in the gamebook makes it tougher to read compared to Infinite Universe's uniformly coloured pages.

This is just my second Gamebook Adventure after the free first chapter of Infinite Universe.

Yep, although it does feature a traditional Fighting Fantasy-style roadblock, i.e. an unavoidable situation located half or two-thirds of the way through the book that can only be bypassed if you've made certain specific choices earlier on in the story.

Without actually spoiling anything, in the first act of the game you're given two sets of choices: first, which of three opponents to fight in the arena in the very opening of the book, and then how to secure passage on the ship a bit later on. Each opponent you can fight has a corresponding (but not overtly related) method of gaining passage; if you don't pick the right combination of opponent and method of ship access in that first act, you'll be unavoidably killed at the end of the second act.

Have you tried switching to the plain paper option? Still has a slight shadow but its much easier to read than the weathered pages. (I use the weather pages if I'm sitting in the house reading and the plain if I'm out)

Tried that. Maybe I am just not used to seeing it there. Slaves of Rema's combat seems to be harder than Infinite Galaxy. Which of the other Gamebook Adventures have easier combat?

Went ahead and grabbed this yesterday. Not sure when I'll get to it, but I let it install so it has a better chance than most of the games in my ios collection.
