I'm running into the same crashing issue, and I'm using iOS 4.3 as well (on a 3GS, though). Is this a crash bug limited just to those running 4.x? If so, I hope a fix is in the works... if not, it might be a good idea to include in the app description that iOS 5.x is required for the game to function.

I hope this gets addressed/resolved soon; radiangames makes quality stuff, and I'd like to dig my teeth into this game eventually.

I hope you'll try the game some more and at least try to reach around wave 20 or so. You'll have seen all the enemy types (though not all the wave variations), and will hopefully understand the powerups and Ballistic mode by that point (it does more than slow down the action, the Ballistic shots also penetrate shields).

The game does take a little while to build steam in terms of difficulty and player engagement, and there isn't a large variety of enemy types, but once you get to the upper waves (40 and above) or play the challenges I think the appeal is more apparent. For most players I hope the upgrades help keep them playing until they get a feel for the flow of the game.

Thanks either way for the honest feedback.
I did try the game again, per your suggestion as well as that of some others here. This time I tried playing on my iPhone 4S instead of the iPad 2 and one definite positive is that the graphics are a lot more appealing.

However. I made it to wave 26 by employing the tactic of simply positioning my orb in a corner and doing almost nothing at all, for the vast majority of the time. The only times I needed to venture out was on waves with the large(ish) yellow orbs that home in on you at speed. Even those could be taken care of with certain upgrades most of the time, without needing to move at all. Occasionally I needed to activate the slow motion to penetrate shields. I've no idea how much longer I could have kept going if I wanted to; by wave 26 I'd simply had enough. Surely, there is a basic problem with the game design here?

I was thinking maybe it's meant for iOS 5 but I didn't see anyone else with the problem, good too know someelse has the same issue.

Maybe it's just iOS 4.3? I dunno? how much memOry and space do u have? Cuz I'm pretty sure it's not ur 3GS...when u open it does it close almost instantly like around a second while seeing the title?

Yeah, the title/logo screen shows up and then it crashes. I have 1.9GB free out of 7 total, so I don't think it's a memory issue either; I had no other big apps running in the background.

It's just weird because it shows Luke (the Radiangames dev) as running iOS 4 on his posting profile, unless he just forgot to update it.

So sorry for the problems! This is my top priority to figure it out.

I have an iPod Touch 2nd Gen running 4.2, and two iPads (1st and 3rd gen) running 5.1 (whatever the latest is). I'll test on the iPod Touch (have to disable some graphics features) and see if I can narrow it down.

I also got a report from someone on an iPhone 4 with 4.3.4 with the same problem. If anyone has this problem, did you see it with Fireball SE? If you would like to test that and don't have it, email me (luke@radiangames.com).

Grabien: Yes, you can stay in the corner for a while, but your score will not be good. You need to get multipliers and bombs (worth a lot) to get a reasonable score.

EDIT: Changed the iTunes description to warn others as well.

Luke

Thank you very much for the quick reply, and it's awesome to hear that you're already working on a fix! I really appreciate the effort.

Good luck!

Found the problem. Will submit an update today. It does not (currently) work with any iOS 4.x version. It was an iCloud issue (had to weak-link a framework). A fix was posted for the plug-in I'm using last week. Sorry everyone on 4.x. Updating the description again.

Default Game Impressions

Well it's running great on my iOS 5.1 devices (iPad 1G & iPod Touch 4G) at least.

I'm seeing this game as Fireball SE going postal.

I mean in Fireball SE you're clearly a sick passive aggressive guy constantly running away from your foes while you plot nasty ways to indirectly kill them. If this weren't already sad enough, when you do kill somebody you then are compelled to rush out and clean up the mess they left behind as if your guy was suddenly feeling guilty about it.

Now in Ballistic you're back against basically against the same crew with an itchy trigger finger. You no longer cower but simply mow the baddies down with devastating firepower! While I think you've lost the ability to make huge combos, you're more than compensated by the ability to evolve your ship with dozens of perks!

I can only wonder what comes next in this potential trilogy. Maybe we'll need to see things from the mobs' perspective?

Never thought about it like that. That's pretty bad-ass when you think about it.
