App description: "Band Together is a fantastic game to play. It is super cool. People are going to love it!"
-- David Lynch, Director

Thank you SO MUCH to our early supporters!!

Band Together is an addictive micro-platformer with single screen puzzles for the iPad 2 and the New iPad featuring gorgeous Retina graphics! It was developed by a team of three students overseen by Dave Taylor ("Doom", "Quake", "Abuse", "Karateka"). Art direction and overall game design was provided by John Chalfant, best known for his stunning characters in the WarCraft 3 trailers, his design work on Arthas (the "Lich King") for World of WarCraft, for his many collaborations with David Lynch, and most recently for the iconic key art used to promote "Batman: Arkham City".

"Band Together is like Little Big Planet meets Lemmings...but with thumbtack death machines! How cool is THAT?"
-- Duane Stinnett, Art Director on Starcraft and Diablo

"As an aficionado of the cute and twisted, I love the art direction of Band Together."
-- Lorne Lanning, Creative Director of the Oddworld Quintology

"The characters are 'cuddly' but in a very sophisticated way, and the thumbtack 'nemesis' element is brilliant, not just clever. The shading, the overall ambience is thoroughly conducive in complimenting the overall 'story' base of creatures under threat. Kudos."
-- Syd Mead, Designer

"Countless times I've witnessed people get transfixed and mesmerized by Band Together (myself included). I'm impressed that students were able to craft a game so engaging and addictive."
-- Mike L. Murphy, Animator, Lord of the Rings

The Backstory:

Michael Silverstein is nicknamed "Midge" by the mean kids in school because he has tiny, tiny hands. Frustrated, Midge retreats to his Great Aunt's attic, where he makes things with his tiny hands that no one else can.

While digging through the bowels of the attic, Midge finds an old, dusty shoebox. Inside are curious little creatures fast asleep. When exposed to the light, they all wake up and stare at Midge's tiny hands like they're the hands of God.

Midge quickly takes a shine to the little creatures and decides to call them "Bandies" because they seem to like to band together. While they don't say much, Midge eventually discovers that the Bandies are pining to be "tested", so he begins to build a series of diabolical tests to push the mysterious little Bandies to their limits!

The Game:

Welcome to "Band Together: The Unboxing" for the iPad 2 and new iPad. Simply touch a Bandi, and drag him where you want to go. Remember to keep all your Bandies well lit so they don't fall asleep, and steer clear of thumbtack death machines, pencil pit traps, baseball boulders, and more. Figure out how to reach the popsicle stick pressure plates and miniature switches that open the trapdoors, retract the pencil walls, and move up the platforms that will get the bandies to the exit. Part puzzle game, part adventure- all painfully cute fun for your iPad 2 and the new iPad!

Game Features:

o Dozens of engaging levels with a gentle learning curve!
o Watch the story unfold in Midge's hand-drawn secret journal!
o Skip the levels that you aren't ready for and return to them later!
o See how many Bandies you can save on each level!
o Thoroughly tested on children aged 4 to 100! No kidding!
o No blood, no gore, but strangely satisfying anyway!

Special Platform Features:

o Gorgeous, ultra-high-definition graphics for the New iPad!
o High-definition graphics for the iPad 2!
o Super broken and slow on the original iPad! Please don't buy it for that!

cabdog's comments:
I saw this new game on App Shopper. I've never added games to these posts, so excuse my ignorance/laziness, but has anyone TOFTTAT and have any impressions?

It certainly looks good and has a lot of hype on the write up, but has a pretty steep price point comparatively speaking.

I'm so glad you posted this. I've been wondering the same thing. It's made it to the New and Noteworthy section in games, but I didn't see any threads here on TA about it.

I'm hoping for a price drop since the only negative reviews in the app store are all focused on price.

That's odd, as the only way one can review is if they have bought, right? So, clearly people are not happy with the Price Point.

I'll be waiting for a price drop then.

Well, now we have a fairly positive review on the TA front page. The graphics are certainly very attractive. Wish listed...

Band Together : Artist Designer saying HI

Howdy Touch Arcade readers!

I just wanted to say HI and thank you for the great review!

A few things you may not know about the game.

It was made with zero budget, actually negative numbers as we threw some of our own monies at a few hard costs like iPads and stuff for development... The deal we set up with the team is pretty rad, they're make'n just as much as we do off our sales. Everybody worked their asses off to make this game happen and we are all real proud to see it finally released.

....aaand that's why it has a steep price atm.... sorry :/ We're hope'n to make some $$ off our release so we can continue developing the game, and make more cool games.

I made much of the game art in my garage with pieces of cardboard and office supplies.

The learning curve and game play is pretty easy, though some later levels get much harder. This was intentional as we wanted to make the experience pretty accessible for all ages. My 100year old great aunt played the game for about 25minutes and it was adorable to watch, I will post some youtube footage of this at some point soon.

We are work'n on new content NOW, more levels will be added as soon as we can...! and no! we are not gonna charge for those! I personally am not a huge fan of in-app purchasing so we're gonna try to keep this as clear cut as we can with future releases and updates!

Please feel free to check out the BT site www.bandtogetherthegame.com (I made the trailer) and email us to say hi or ask questions.

Super thanks for your interest and support of the game.

Bought strictly based on previous posters' honesty and this game is all about charm and atmosphere. Gameplay is fun to boot!!

Mods? Anyway you can please change the title of this thread please to remove the 'impressions' as I don't think it's necessary please?

After playing more levels of this, I personally don't think it is as easy as the front page review leads, but I like that I can keep going and not get incredibly roadblocked.

I was just about to click the buy button, when I noticed the terrible truth - it won't install on my iPad rev.1, only rev.2 and later. (Cue wavering violins background)

For the dev: do you anticipate bringing the title to the first iPad as well, in a future update? Surely the ingenuity of such a brilliant team will find that a comparatively modest challenge. ^_^
