Shoot from far away, and keep moving back so they can't get near you - that's what I've been doing, anyway!

You have a bow to start, so always 'shoot', never 'attack' (even adjacent enemies). On some turns, after you shoot you can back out of range of the enemy. Once you get to the middle, let your allies take the front and snipe from behind them.

I've never died going in (or come close), but if you are about to die then get back out of range of whatever you're fighting and don't move on to engage the next enemy - you move far enough that if you just run, the enemy won't be able to hit you. Experience is shared to some degree (I dunno if it's evenly split or favors the killer), but if you can just survive, your allies will level you up, refilling your health and letting you continue.

Okay I am having an issue with the game that is frustrating me quite a bit..Got lots of questions so I'll break them down by numbers.

1) When inviting someone to play via e-mail of my contacts, does that send them an e-mail to their inbox telling them I've invited them to come play or some nonsense? Or am I just selecting them to have a playable character with me in the game?

2) After starting a game with a random e-mail from one of my contacts I've selected do I have to wait for that contact to make a move before the game can continue?

3) Why isn't there a solo mode?

4) I believe my game is bugged. I clicked play, I chose my character a Paladin I selected an e-mail of a random person on my contacts to play with. The game started and I killed a wolf and ended my turn, it now says it's waiting for my turn. However NOTHING happens, what the hell? Another wolf spawned I click on it nothing happens. I try to click my character to move and nothing happens. So I now have two games stuck like this and no idea how to delete them from my games list..

The latter. When they start the game they'll see your invite and be able to join your game, and take their first turn (assuming it's their turn), but the game doesn't otherwise communicate with them via external methods. It's up to you to tell your friends that they're invited to a game, or you could wait until they fire up the game themselves.

You have to wait for all other players to make their move before your next turn.

3) Why isn't there a solo mode?

Design decision on the part of the developers. Even if there were a solo mode though, there are better solo RPG's out there - I'd give Sword of Fargoal a shot if you want a nice solo experience.

That's normal - it's how the game works. You are waiting in these games for the other players to take their turns until your next turn comes around.
