Yah I gave it some though, and I'm not going to change my game name, even though it would be more personal if I did. It's not a big enough deal for me and I'm to far ahead at this point to start changing that. I still might put a mini subtitle of Gus vs. the flies in the main menu or in promotional material. I have to keep plowing ahead and release this thing.

So moving on can anyone give me any more feedback on the current video?

If anyone is interested I have a tesflight account to try out Buzz Attack
Testflight: http://tflig.ht/MEtOxt

This game is very challenging even on easy mode and it does it's best to keep you constantly engaged. So anyone up for the challenge?

Please PM if I can't cross reference your info with your profile on touch arcade with your testflight account. I'm suspicious of complete strangers signing up.

Your game looks great as is. I love the way the arms move, it gives the game some charm that would be missing if you had more realistic movement.

From what I saw, I would buy it. I would just suggest making sure you add lots of content, unlockables and or score combos.

Thanks, I'm trying to make the game as interesting as possible given that your sort of in an arena game and can't leave the park

For instance the blue fly:

I've been looking into articles on marketing and doing basic things like finding the right app store keywords for my game and how to write a press release. Are there any definitive posts or articles online with loads of information that someone can point me too.

First of all, kudos for coming up with such an original game.

If I can make a suggestion that's doable.

I think adding a new "arena" could add to the charm of the game and certainly double or triple the replay value, even if the game was fundamentally the same. How about a fancy restaurant? That would be pretty funny with him chasing flies around in a environment where that would be discouraged. I think it would further add to the charm of the old man where these flies plague him wherever he goes.

Also, how about a coffee powerup that causes his arms to both spin like windmills for a limited time?

One word: Chopsticks!

Like in the Karate Kid when Daniel-san catches a fly with chopsticks.

I love the arms. If you change them, the game would lose some character.

Additional comments which you can totally ignore of course:
  • Redo the menus completely (park signs on a pole?)
  • Multiple characters (not everyone likes old mustached dudes)
  • Add your own face to the character with the camera
  • Bees, hornets, wasps
  • Muggers
  • Incoming sporting equipment from kids playing outside the gates (soccer balls, frisbees, footballs) - he has to smack them to avoid being hit - bonus points for returning them over the gate
  • Beautiful girls and old ladies walking by
    • Girl gives him a kiss for killing flies near her
    • Old lady hits him with her purse if he touches her
  • Day/night cycle - fireflies
  • Spiders drop down from the trees
That's all I've got right now.

Having said all of that, none of these things will make a lick of difference unless the game gets popular. You have enough gameplay for a release I think, but marketing is insanely hard. Even with reviews on major app/game sites it's hard to get downloads.

One comment about the videos. You mentioned you were planning to make a longer video. Don't do that. Nobody wants to watch long gameplay videos.

Your trailer should be 30-60 at the most and should give players a taste of the main gameplay.

You want to get them interested in finding out more. A good movie trailer leaves you wanting to see the movie. It doesn't show the whole thing.

Making a good, short trailer is much better than a long one where you navigate through menus and show all game modes.

Thanks, I definitely wanted to make more environments, but it's a lot of work. Had ideas about a fishing boat on the water, a restaurant, and a home office, with bugs coming out of the computer, lol. Maybe the last one is too meta. Want to focus on producing one descent quality simple game first.

Wow that's a lot of cool ideas. The only one I had though of before was the mugger and girls walking into the park (if you hit them they pepper spray you). Had an idea with your Mom coming into the park to chastise you and if you keep the flies from attacking her, she gives you a vacuum cleaner to suck up all the flies. There could be a lot of potential for adding new stuff, but if the core game isn't any good it's not worth it. Will have to release it and see how it does. Marketing is something I know so little about, just trying to talk about the game wherever I go and get feedback and exposure if I can. Don't have much money to work with either. Ultimately the game has to be out for people to judge it, so hard to build any hype unless you have some track record which I don't.

I totally agree with the movie trailer, going to get a friend to help make it.

Will keep posting here of any new developments.

So heading the most important feedback on this forum I made the game Landscape mode (it's actually dynamic now) and I'm pretty much done (some localization, polish and new icon work to be complete), will also need some beta testing and off it goes into the App store jungle.

GAME INFO AND TRAILER on TA upcoming games thread
