Default New to jailbreaking help me!!?

Hi guys all i want to do is to be able to play pokemon on the ipod, ive heard you can do this by jailbreaking, but ive heard it can lead to virus's etc.. Im not sure its worth the risk?
Also ive heard you can download any game for free? That would save me a fortune if its true..
What are the major downfalls of jailbreaking?
Thanks alot guys

If you jailbreak sensibly and install emulators from reputable sources then you will be absolutely fine.

Looking to download all games for free however, would surely increase your risk of viruses or what-not. I cant say for sure though, since I don't do that personally.

I play emulators almost exclusively. the *.emu emulators are so awesome! Waiting for an update to gba.emu though, since its very choppy on my ipod touch. Anyway I digress..

I say go for it.

Whenever someone says something like that, I recall memories from years ago when kids go:"I heard downloading xxx can infect your pc! ...But I wouldn't know if it is true of cos...since I don't download xxx". lol...

The major downfall of jailbreaking is that it allows techonologically challenged users freedom to fiddle with system files...much like giving a toddler access to your PC's c:/ drive. While it is almost impossible to brick an ios device, it can be tedious and annoying to restore/reinstall/format your os.

I say go for it ! Jailbreak and engage in the piracy of Nintendo games! =p

Use absinthe (think the website is absinthe.com or something) anyway it's free and from legitimate hackers like pod2g and musclenerd. Give it a go. As for antivirus, as long as you don't do anything stupid, you'll be fine. Use common sense. If you actually, somehow end up screwing up your iPod just restore. Remember jailbreaking is a software change, nothing more. It can always be reversed.

You're not supposed to talk about piracy on this site, whether that be of Nintendo games, or App Store games.

For old Nintendo games, just google it. For App Store games, don't do it.

Don't use absinthe. Download redsn0w from blog.iphone-dev.org and when it give you a promt for DFU/Backup, select DFU. Absinthe /backup will take forever (let's say 5 minutes for every GB?). Also, don't download any antivirus to your iPod. That's just retarded. Never pay to jailbreak your iPod and never update your version of iOS unless there is an untethered jailbreak available.

Also DFU will allow you to enabled Battery Percentage. If it doesn't promt for DFU, cancel and go to More -> Even More and check "use ramdisk whenever possible".

If you are scared of malicious software on your device, only use reputable repos and packages (you'll know what I'm talking about). Don't use "cracked" packages from repos like "ihacksrepo." One of their packages kept crashing my Springboard.
Anyway, a few good packages to start with are:
-Winterboard (allows change of Springboard theme)
-Bytafont (allows change of font)
-Protube (no, its not an adult movie viewer, all you sickos out there, it's Youtube that allows you to download videos and turn them to MP3s, if you want.)
Hope this helps!

Absinthe is fine if you don't want to backup up. Back up beforehand to iTunes, prederably not iCloud.
