Just played the first two levels. Dual shooter controls work fine, enhanced graphics are crisp...then it got boring. Damn.

I'm actually disappointed in this release - I been looking forward to reliving some old memories.

I agree about the scroll... one of the things that made the game special back in the day was that it ran super smooth and this version is rather jerky. There is no reason for this and I know for a fact the iPad1 could handle this game with ease.

Another thing that irks me is that any messages from the OS or Game Center sometimes get printed the wrong way around... For the price of the game these bugs should of been sorted out. Also, auto rotation when you turn the device should be used and not flipping the screen around. At the buying price you should not expect rough edges in the presentation of the game. Don't get me wrong I don't mind the price point but I do expect good presentation at that price.

Also, the original had a super sexy female voice to tell you what was happening and the sampled voice in this version is drab. Missing details like that is like missing what made the game special in the first place.

But on a plus side the controls work very well and it has the flavour of the original - but I expected more from this version... I too have mixed feelings about it.

Don't care if the IAP are optional. IGN just did an article on gaming with OCD and that is one tick that I can't deal with. Just having the IAP in a game annoys me. (especially if they aren't needed) I would gladly pay 1$ or 2 more for a version that has none.

I don't mind IAPs when you aren't 'forced' to get them. Played two levels last night and racked up a fair few coins. I wont need to buy any at all

I'm enjoying this, dual stick controls work well and there's a lot of content

For $4.99 its still a bargain. Yeah could be slightly cheaper but again. Just 5 dollars

Didnt have any slowdown or issues on my ipod touch 4th gen

Please keep in mind that I am playing this game on an IPad 3.

The game runs great. I don't find it jerky at all. I really like the updated
graphics. You have the option to play with the original low res graphics
as well. When you play the game as it was originally done ,you do hear the
original voices like on my Amiga version. And yes, BazookaTime, some objects, like
barrels etc. do stop you from moving forward. That was how the game originally played.

The high res version does indeed use different voices. The aiming can be set to
move with the left joystick and aim 360 degrees with the right stick. I
find this setup works quite well . This version also seems a little more
easier than the original version I played years ago. This suits me fine , as I
found the original difficulty a bit too hard ,as I never did complete the
game back then. I also find that I do run out of keys, but I always seem to
find enough ammo to shoot the doors and not run out like I did in the original
1991 version.

All in all I am very happy I picked this game up now to support Team 17.
I usually wait for a sale as I generally buy my games at the 99 cent mark.
In this case , I am pleased with my purchase.

I did get a chance to play Alien Breed on the Icad at my brothers house. It played well I thought.

I had enough money to buy the arc laser weapon. It bounces off walls. This really saves on ammo,
being able to kill a few more Aliens with the same shot.

Looking at the screenshots, the design of the Retina aliens seems to be altered a lot, to a point where they look nearly half as bad-ass Giger-like as the original. Can you confirm that? Were they afraid of copyright problems?

I'm a huge alien movie/book fan... this is tempting for me just to kill some hr giger rip off aliens but the price is kind of high

Kinda high ? Its just a few dollars !

This game was about 30 dollars on the Amiga back in the 90's, here you have the original game, plus the followups all in the palm of your head for a measely 5 dollars, dont realise how lucky we are nowadays !!

Relevant context. In this case being, not the price of Amiga games 20+ years ago, but what $5 will buy you on the app store. Today. Same reason why all the coffee and burger comparisons are completely irrelevant as well. Relevant Context.
