I wouldn't call this a GOF clone, though there are similarities in the set up. For one, this game pushes much harder on the RPG and combat elements and less on trade and mining. For another, the story is different and, at the start at least, kind of intriguing. As to the $5.99 cost, it goes into things like full voice acting and pretty deep and sophisticated ship upgrade and combat system.

My main issues are with the mission system, which is a little vague, travel times (too long) and the initial difficulty which seems pretty brutal. I've tried to get past the first mission and failed four times; when you die you end up having to repeat a bunch of tedious travel, as well as re-allocate points, buy and install upgrades, etc. At this point I'm close to giving up, so I guess I can't quite recommend the game.
Well, the control layout is exactly the same or very similar, the ship looks quite familiar, it's the same space roaming type of game as GoF. So far, by the description and screens, it's done nothing to distinguish itself from GoF as far as gameplay and graphics (which look inferior). Only difference seems to be in the story and japanese comic book art style storyboards. Sounds like a clone, or at the very least "inspired by", to me.

This is one of those games that in the description sound EXACTLY like a instabuy for ....JRPG??...SPACESHOOTER.....? Throw in a anime chick and I'm freakin pretty much already making a reservation on my device for it...

BUT thanks to members like Sanuku after seeing a trailer....um well then I remind myself of all the damn iOS games in my "HAVEN'T YET" folders on my devices and also the fact that other console games like kingdom hearts dream drop haven't even been opened yet ....then I came the hell down

VoiceOvers are baaad and art is so so ....seems like the space trader aspect is lower then GOF which for me is fine. But I can't really justify dropping 6 bucks on a game like this when I could easily buy something like batman over this...if a sale hits I'm in as for now .....my overflowing plate of games keeps me green

To be fair, GoF didn't invent the space trader combat genre. And there's only so many ways you can do controls for this sort of game on a touchscreen.

That said, I agree that it doesn't seem to have done enough to warrant a purchase when I'm still playing and enjoying GoF.

Thanks for the impressions guys.

Really? Control layout has to be an issue? I'm pretty sure every iOS game with virtual controls will have some similarity to another. Virtual buttons and a virtual stick offset to the side. The only space trading game with a completely different control scheme as far as I know would be Warpgate.

By those standards, every turn-based JRPG is a clone of Final Fantasy.

Well said.

People with this mentality are why WoW has dominated the market for so long. "What? It has hot keys 1-8 and you click to attack? Must be a WoW clone, and therefore inferior!"

People forget WoW was an Everquest clone...

I've updated my previous views (see first page). It's too early to say whether it's worth the price, but so far it seems like an ambitious and polished game.

Oh, and it's probably worth mentioning that the game has no IAPs.

How is the pacing? One of the nice things about ios gaming is the fast gameplay. I won't play WoW but Order and Chaos is great. GoF2 really hooked me but only after they implemented the FF travel buttons. Waiting sucks. I glossed thru Sanuku's video, and as much as I like the concept, it seems a tad slow.

Price is fine, though. I love how everyone bitches about six bucks, which would be nothing on a console or handheld store.

Pacing is not bad. You do have an FF button when not in combat, and the missions flow fast from one to the other. You can also save at any time (from the options menu). My only complaint at this point is that hitting enemies with the first weapon (a gatling gun) is perhaps a bit harder than it should be. Once you add missiles you can use auto-targeting, but it might be a little while before I earn enough to afford it. Then again, I feel that I'm just dipping my toes in the game, as it were, so please take this with a grain of salt.
