Traffic Jam 2 - a word of warning

I really enjoy the 'parking lot' or 'daughter in a box' genre of games. I'm a huge fan of Square Master, Blocked and Kitten Escape. I finished Blocked on the weekend so when I saw Chillingo had a new parking lot style game ported to the iPhone I grabbed it. And I do like some of Chillingo's other iPhone games such as Beetle Lines, Dougie Moo, etc.

At first it looks good. You can view a 3D parking lot or you can revert to the 2D version. But, alas, gameplay is slow and frustrating. They need to tweek the controls. At the moment you have to first select the vehicle to move and then move the vehicle a block at a time. You can't just touch a vehicle and slide it to where you want to go. This means gameplay seems really, really slow.

So if you are a fan of this genre I'd wait until the controls are improved lest you experience the frustration of really slow gameplay.

Java version ain't that great either. Good idea on paper, but doesn't really work that well in 3D.

I found this game to be rather unresponsive. Not worth it.
Spend the $.99 and get Gridlock (car graphics) or Square Master. Both are very smooth and responsive which is extremely important in this type of game.

I'm a fan of Parking Lot for this style of game.

Gridlock 2 is coming though, might be worth a 2nd look.

Gridlock 2 or Gridlock version 2.0? As in a "new" app or simply an updated app?

Sounds like an update, rather than a new app IMO. Let's hope because I'm not shelling out for a new app!

I'm surprised to hear you say that. Trafficjam has a very fast and responsive user interface. Perhaps unfortunately named, it is a completely separate app from Trafficjam 2.

The Lite Edition of Trafficjam should be hitting the app store this week.

Update fixed controls

I was pleased to see that an update has been released. I put Traffic Jam 2 back on my iPhone and can confirm that the update has fixed the controls for Traffic Jam 2. It is now easy to select cars and slide them to their new positions on the board.

Currently the only issue I have is that I prefer to play in the 2D mode. In this mode the board and cars are smaller and this can make it harder to correctly select cars. Text on the screen is also rather small and I had to squint when trying to enter my name. Unless the board and cars get smaller in size then I don't think it will prevent me from enjoying the game. So far the car and board size is not an issue if you play in 3D mode.

At the moment I don't have time to get stuck into the game so I can't comment about the level of difficulty.
