Is it just me, or is the jumping mechanic broken? I can believe that the developer intended to make jumping onto basic platforms so difficult.

I am having a lot of problems jumping. He seems to jump straight up even on a run.

Jumping may seem hard to start with but once you 'get it', hopefully it then feels a lot more comfortable. The key is timing! For instance, if you are performing a double jump, keep the direction you are intending to jump pressed down at all times, jump once but dont be too hasty to initiate the double jump. If you are trying to reach a high platform, wait until you are at the peak of your first jump before tapping again to do your double jump. If you are trying to clear a gap, again jump once and then as the boy is about to land/fall in the hole, tap again to hit the double jump, in effect 'stretching out' the jump process. @BazookaTime Sorry to hear you're having troubles with that. If the direction you are running is always kept pressed down and never released throughout the whole jump process, the boy will always be sufficient with his jumps and wont just jump more or less vertically.

@The guys/gals playing this, does the developers advice above on jumping make sense, as in does it just take a little while to 'get it'? I hope so cause I've been looking forward to this one for a while.
