I have heard rumors, but I have never got a first hand story of someone bricking their iPhone jailbreaking it. I would like to hear a first hand account or see a link to someone who killed their iPhone beyond fixing using something like QuickPWN.
I simply don't believe that adding software to a device can brick it. I think these rumors are false to scare people away from doing it. For me, I came as close as you can get. Mine froze at the end of jailbreaking (I didn't remove my apps before jailbreaking), and on restart it stuck on the Apple logo. When connected it would freeze iTunes so I couldn't restore it. I had to run QuickPWN up to step 2, then disconnect, and then iTunes would stop crashing and I was able to restore it. The second attempt worked fine. |

The "freezing" at the boot logo occurred for mine as well, on the first time. Second time it worked fine.
I honestly don't think you can brick your device that way. |

Well, according to numerous people I have been told by, it is completely and totally IMPOSSIBLE to brick your ipod. The only thing you can do is freeze it which can through some form of actions be fixed through a force restore.

Funny how the uninformed keep saying how they are scared they will brick their iPhones if they attempt to jailbreak it. I wonder who started this nonsense?

It is ALWAYS possible to re-flash your iDevice in iTunes, so no need to worry. Also, jailbreaking DOES NOT make your device slower. Not by itself. Jailbreaking is like giving your user account ADMIN privileges, nothing more. With that new POWER, you can install themes and background apps that use up memory, which MAY lead to low memory situations if abused. FYI.. I have my iPod Touch 1G decked out visually, and run Categories (to get around the 9-page limit) and SBSettings (mainly to switch WiFi on/off quickly and to monitor system stats) and I have 40-50mb free RAM. |

Mine froze up the first time I tried to jailbreak, but it was an easy fix. I really don't think its possible to totally "brick" your device while jailbreaking

The tethered jailbreaks are mainly the ones that you could have trouble with and end up ultimately bricking your device. This is because you do everything yourself, and don't use any software that does the work for you.
QuickPWN, Quick Freedom and other programs designed to jailbreak your device for you don't really pose any threats of bricking. |

You should always be able to restore. |

You cannot brick your device by jailbreaking.
You can however, once you are jailbroken, SSH into your device and mess up files and cause it to be bricked if you delete or change certain files. But that has to happen after jailbreaking. |
