•••Spoiler: Because I'm stumped, I'm trying to lay out the components of the riddle a new way to see new connections. Per hints on the board, looks like the answer has something to do with "reading music" and "Lord Dunsany" and dates. And the riddle appears to be "Where is Lee Palmer?"
Went back to the text on gobshrine.com. Find it interesting that it says "Mrs. Luft told me that Thorston mentioned that Lee had told him that he had notes for several more novels but they lost contact. I do not know where the notes went but would be interested in purchasing them." Could this have something to do with Rudy Croyle's song on the first page? Aren't those just ... notes? Perhaps there's a message there. I've read Gods of Pegana (great book!) and typed in loads of words and locations. Nothing seemed to register, although it was interesting to note that in the chapter about Yadin's quest, he's traveling south -- as did Lee Palmer, when he traveled from Iowa to Wichita to meet B. Villiers, a reference to Lord Dunsany's wife. Clearly, there's a parallel. In terms of dates, we've got two confirmed ones: Lord Dunsany's birthdate of July 24, 1878 and Lee Palmer's last letter, dated July 24, 1978, another parallel. There's also the number 58, which is part of the email address godsofpegana58@hotmail.com. That MIDI file on gobshrine.com is important. Maybe it's a song? And the name of that song title is an answer? Or a hint? No answers here, clearly, but just trying to spell out what we know in hopes new connections could be formed. |

An interesting fact:
A central and defining landmark in Wichita (I'm assuming Kansas and not Wichita Falls, Texas although didn't the devs have a release party in Austin?) is the giant Indian statue surrounded by a ring of fire called The Keeper of the Plains. The name, profile, and certain images of the statue appear very God of Bladesesque. Construction on it was completed in 1974, four years before Lee Palmer's arrival.

Any tips for doing better in eternal mode? I do fairly well against regular enemies but the bosses take me out pretty quick. I can only get about 200,000 if I'm lucky.

•••Spoiler: The date shift cipher -- which makes sense since both Lee Palmer's note and Dunsany's birthday have the same date of 07/24/78 -- is pretty easy once you get the hang of it. The big question is what is the code that we're deciphering?
Using the song notes produces a lot of gibberish. (EZZXUWA..., which is too long to fit into the answer box.) As does the question "Where is Lee Palmer?" (WACNX AS ECA ITLFCN?) Pegana is PXEWGS. Wichita is WBADBMA. There's the book code cipher, which uses page numbers, then rows, then a word, definitely fits the spirit of the game, but there are so many different printings of Gods of Pegana that it would be hard (not to mention evil) to expect folks to find the right version. (That said, I've been referencing this one: http://archive.org/stream/godsofpega...ge/n7/mode/2up) But the date 07/24/78 doesn't work. I ended up with "MILLIONS." I guess I'll try more words. Guh. My brain hurts. |

I found this potential lead but unfortunately I am out of my depth with this one:

I used barbarox, but that is my style. Try different weapons and use whatever you like best.

I found a way to parse the MIDI file online. You can download the text here:
http://phpmidiparser.com/report/780 I don't think there's a hidden message in there, but it'll give you a good idea of the notes. It spells them out exactly. |
