App description: The Woods is a psychological first person action adventure horror game set deep within an ancient wood (3D and free roaming). You play a paranormal investigator tasked to uncover the mystery of the woods and lay to rest any spirits within. While avoiding contact with a sinister demon you must collect pages to a ritual book which can be used to send the spirits back to hell for good. The tension builds slowly but soon you will be running for your life, your only defence is your flashlight that can burn away spirits momentarily. The Woods is highly atmospheric and will have you terrified to look over your shoulder throughout. There's even a reaction camera built in to see those jump scare moments utilising a Picture in Picture webcam image (external software required for recording).

The Woods has even been optimised for older devices allowing for a smooth playable experience on both iPod touch 4G and iPhone 4 even with per-pixel torch lighting. When using newer devices The Woods is simply stunning displaying thick vegetation thought out. Additional Anti-Aliasing has even been added to non retina displays (iPad 2 and iPad mini) compensating for the loss of resolution.

A beautifully smooth and responsive first person control system has been specifically developed to elegantly control both player and flashlight giving a very natural feel to movement when peering into the dark dense wood.

I played an early build of The Woods and found it to be a very polished and creepy games. The graphics (for an iOS game) are crisp and immersive creating an immersive experience. You move around a forest, cabin, and surrounding environments in the first person perspective. In the build I played you look around by placing one finger on the screen and dragging or can move by placing two fingers on the screen. You can drag your fingers while moving to steer and look around. To access the menu tap with 3 fingers. The only problem I encountered was that the end of the playable map area is not clearly marked so when you reach it your character just won't move further towards the seemingly open forest. Definitely worth checking out for $0.99.

Described as "Alan Wake meets Slenderman"? Shut up and take my money, 3 Cubes. The trailer looks fantastic...less than 4 hours to go!

So this is largely a Slenderman-esque "find the X pages located around the playfield" type affair with a flashlight mechanic added, or is there more to it gameplay-wise?

There are chapters and missions with a sense of progression (i.e. find the cabin, see the book, look for x...) but a lot of the game revolves around finding items in the environment. Also some implied plot with, for example, arcane symbols on the wall of the cabin.

Well, that sounds a bit more encouraging than the usual basic SM fare; I'll probably wait for a couple of impressions and then pick this up if the feedback looks good.

The Woods

Hi all, thanks undeadcow for posting here saved me a job

There is more to it than a slender clone as you can fight back with your flashlight! (Alan wake style) you have more than one enemy too. Also the whole control system is much more natural than most FPS game, its a very smooth but responsive system.

Will be announcing a little competition later for a itunes gift card.
