recording gameplay videos

I want to record videos of my game running on my iPod Touch, but I'm not sure what to buy (in the affordable range). Should I get a webcam, or a real video camera? Do I need to mount it on a tripod to get decent video quality? I would love to know how any of you have done this.

(Sorry if this has been asked before... I couldn't find much information on the subject.)

you can also consider grabbing the screen directly from the simulator (screenflow for example). for recording I use in addition a hd2000 camera which gives more resolution than a webcam.

That's a nice looking camera. I've taken videos and screenshots from the simulator before, but I think showing my game running on an actual device would be more professional.

Just get a cheap HD video camera (i.e - Aiptek Action-HD), a stand and a white screen and you're sorted.

Yes I used the DV300 from aiptec before and its also a good camera,
look at my videos in youtube (link below) and tell me which has been made with the dv300 and which with the hd2000- the drawback on the dv300 was that all is automatic (focus for example is pumping a little bit).

If you want to save up the cost and cut out on all the finger action during the trailer of your game, you can consider some of those onscreen recording applications. Unless your games require some demonstration from tilting activities or multi-touching =)

It does look like the color balance and focus are off in that second video. I guess the camera quality makes a big difference.

yes the 2nd (AClapBoard) is done with the DV300. THE Poc is done with the HD 2000 has the ability to freece the focus and auto whitebalance for example (all can be set to manual !). Also the optic is better and I can use additional lenses.
I used 1280x720 and 30p, but the camera canalso record 1920x1080 with 60p -- the 60p is interesting for some analysis (also the 240p modus !!!) to see exact image appearance on the iPhone and do some optimization in the timing.
The price difference is not that large.

By the way I used a seperate audio device, which is always better and the AClapBoard App to synchronize both !

It's too much asking for a video from my game and in return give an adhoc / promo code?

If not, PM me please. I want more GeoRain videos and I dont have a decent camera.
