Default What is a typical launch day no of downloads?

To any developers that have released a free app in the last 2 months, why has been your normal amount of downloads on launch day?

50+
100-200
200 - 400
Over 400?

Just wanted to get into perspective what the average is...?

Thank you
Mike

And as a follow up question to that - how long did it take before downloads started to slow?

Pretty much instantly unfortunately, 300 the next day, then 200, then 100, nowadays it's 50 a day.
I didn't have much for marketing, basically just free web and social networking marketing. Still working at it.

Were these downloads literally a result of visibility under the 'New' section of your primary categories, or were reviews posted for launch day?

Default Market Your App with GreatApps.com

Mike,

Each app is different.

Some release apps the first day and get 0 downloads because nobody is seeing them.

Some receive thousands+

It is all over the map and each app is perceived differently.

This goes to show that no app is successful long term with no marketing budget on any level. Apple basically forces everyone now to market their apps or it is lost in the shuffle.

Review sites are short term spikes and then your completely forgotten about.

I suppose its a bit like YouTube, I have a video with over 300,000 views and all my others have about 80 views haha it's mainly if you're lucky with if people see it or not.

I released my game at $0.99, and the downloads were like 4-5 the first day, and then gradually came down over the week.
Then, I decided to release it as free for some time with Ads. The first day downloads were around 60 and everyday it's like around 10 downloads.

But, then I did minimum investment in marketing or spreading the news.
So, in case you wanted to know what you get with that, that's it.

OMG, shows how even more competitive things have gone on the free market lately. I released a free app a year ago (a lite version, not a fremium) and it started out at 2k at launch day (a Friday) then 4k on Saturday and 7k on Sunday. It continued at 3-6k a day for another week then slowly declined to ~500 a day for another two weeks, then another ramp down and after a month it settled to an average of 100 a day where it still is now.

Of course, like everybody else, I had a perfect marketing campaign back then for the launch weekend. Let me share my marketing plan with you if I can find it. Ok, here it is, the first bullet said: release on App Store. The second bullet said: go do something else.

Looks like things have become a lot harder now.
