Gotta be honest. I know the dev was trying to go in a different direction and for some, that will be great. I was on the fence with Cubed Rally Redline because I wasn't sure if I'd like the new controls.

This decided it for me. I much prefer Cubed Rally Racer to this (or the Redline control method).

I can see where others may like it though. Definately should appeal more to the casual crowd.

Redline is more casual, Racer more hardcore. I have both and love them. Each has their own appeal. I really wish Racer 2 gets developed, but I'm very happy with Redline.
