App description: The Woods is a psychological first person action adventure horror game set deep within an ancient wood (3D and free roaming). You play a paranormal investigator tasked to uncover the mystery of the woods and lay to rest any spirits within. While avoiding contact with a sinister demon you must collect pages to a ritual book which can be used to send the spirits back to hell for good. The tension builds slowly but soon you will be running for your life, your only defence is your flashlight that can burn away spirits momentarily. The Woods is highly atmospheric and will have you terrified to look over your shoulder throughout. There's even a reaction camera built in to see those jump scare moments utilising a Picture in Picture webcam image (external software required for recording).

The Woods has even been optimised for older devices allowing for a smooth playable experience on both iPod touch 4G and iPhone 4 even with per-pixel torch lighting. When using newer devices The Woods is simply stunning displaying thick vegetation thought out. Additional Anti-Aliasing has even been added to non retina displays (iPad 2 and iPad mini) compensating for the loss of resolution.

A beautifully smooth and responsive first person control system has been specifically developed to elegantly control both player and flashlight giving a very natural feel to movement when peering into the dark dense wood.

Does it take a long time to complete? And are there any more modes or levels? I don't want a game which can be finished quickly.

There are multiple chapters (levels?) but only one play mode (so far as I can tell). I wouldn't say this is a casual or short game but have not beat it yet.

This game is kinda scary... It has been years since a video game scared me, but this one did.

This game is all about the atmosphere so don't ruin it playing in in the day.

Turn your lights off, put on you headphones and enjoy.

PS. I'm curious about the competition and the live camera option

PPS. Can walk backwords in this game? Or strife? I can only walk forward which is super weird.

My experience is that you can not walk backwards or strife. Despite the limitations I found the movement control to be very smooth... drag screen to look around and steer while moving and touch with two fingers to move forward.

Edit: As an aside, I understand first person shooters typically have a strife option... but who really strifes in "real life"? Maybe I just lack the combat training to consider strifing in my everyday routine but I am certain I would not strife through a dark forest.

Yes, I haven't played a real kind of creepy game on iOS. The dark meadow had elements, but got a little campy. Prisoner 84 had some scary elements but the graphics are very basic. This looks like Blair Witch meets Amnesia/Alan Wake. Looking forward to buying this tonight ! Is there a release time for the US store??

All times are GMT -5. The time now is 01:23 PM.
