We're not sure how we're going to handle it yet (whether its private invites, or a public announcement here), so stay tuned.

Anyway, the latest feature we've added is a really awesome crafting system - but of course our own take on it, and one that makes sense in the scheme of the game. Basically, there are a variety of different environment types (snow, jungle, forest, mountain, etc), and each one provides a different type of rare mineral you can collect, which is used for crafting. The cool part is, every turret and piece of equipment has several spots for crafting different add-ons and modules... and there are a ton of options for stuff you can craft (from basic damage, range, ROF modules, to more specific add-ons unique to certain weapons). Even better is you have complete freedom to focus on whatever weapons you want...

We've also got 3 game modes which will be in for release (with more planned for the future)... first there is the standard survival mode. In this mode you are free to save and load at anytime, so if you die, there is no penalty for loading and trying a different strategy. You'll go back and forth between the build and action phase, until your barracks or avatar is destroyed. Then there is the casual mode. This is basically just a sandbox mode where you have unlimited money and can pretty much do whatever you want (even switching freely between "god mode" and avatar mode whenever you want)... you can test out strategies, or make intricate and awesome looking fortresses just for the heck of it. And then there is the "Quickstart" mode... this is the competitive mode where there will be leaderboards, etc. In this mode you build up your entire base at the start (with a huge lump of cash), and then you last as long as possible as your avatar.

I know we haven't posted any screens or videos recently, but that doesn't mean we're behind schedule... it just means we've had to focus on getting the game-play ready for beta, and we've had to put the visuals and effects on the back-burner (which means we can't show anything off yet). But again, we're getting closer than it may seem!
I hope I get a chance to test this!

We actually had that element in the game before, but found that there is already just so much global stuff going on (managing an economy, building turrets and walls, repairing stuff, targeting dangerous enemies, etc), that it doesn't work as great as it sounds like it would. Keep in mind in Minecraft you don't have the level of action that you will have in Block Fortress.

So again, right now its more focused on the base building aspect, rather than running around as an avatar...

But I'm curious to see what people think about that? Is having an avatar that you can do some damage with something that people would really love? - keeping in mind that with that it would naturally heavily take away from the base building TD aspect...

Actually Block Fortress is not quite like the "maze builder" TDs... enemies have the capabilities of attacking any part of your base (though your main objective is to defend your barracks). The cool part is that it makes it so careful planning is much more important, especially when things like elevation increasing turret range, line-of-sight, and other strategic elements play a role.

But this is also a mode we're toying with (more of the traditional TD).
To be honest i actually like the idea that it's more an overworld view. I dont really like to move around with a character to build stuff, and the overworld view seems the perfect solution.

All i can say is that this will be another Foursaken jaw-dropper, and i havent even picked my jaw up from H&C!

I actually agree, but we understand some people like that element - which is why we've created a neat blend between the two. Most of the building is done in the overworld view, inbetween the action sequences. However, your avatar has 4 slots to put ANY block into. So you could go pure offense with all weapons, you could go "standard" with some weapons and some equipment, or you could go "builder", where you put turrets and wall blocks into your slots, allowing you to build on the fly and adapt better to incoming enemies.

Trust me, we are - on all fronts! The beauty is we've set up a system and have a team that allows us to work on a few things at once without slowing any one thing down
